I think we should've found a way to trade up and take Chet. We had the assets

No we didn’t. Neither team was trading their pick.

I don’t know about blowing the pick but the Curry-Reed comps never made sense to me. Reed plays way too scared. Curry was always a gunner and didn’t need 3 feet of space to shoot.

lol some of you are so sensitive. God strike me down because I don’t understand Reed getting compared to a top 10 player ever.

I didn’t really have an issue with you doubting his Steph comp. I have an issue with you saying a 20 yr old in his 3rd game is “playing scared.” It’s a dumb thing to say.

Indeed he is, however, you limit him to jumpshots and take away that insane mobility at 7'5" and he has to be Steph Curry to have the same impact as he does playing the "finesse Giannis with range" bit. I can live with it if he just scorches the net. Not so much watching him torch bigs who aren't quick enough (and no one is tall enough) to matter.

Alperen Sengun didn't fall into their laps nor was he consensus. They traded with the Thunder to get that pick and absolutely robbed Sam Presti in that deal. And if you're going to criticize those picks as "consensus", I'd love to see who you'd prefer they would have picked instead, especially if you can link the posts you made prior to that draft indicating that you wanted that player.

I said get Edey so we can be champions of the regular season....just like Jokic/KAT/Embiid

Play drop coverage defense just like JoKATEm

Abuse the lighter centers in the league and look like an MVP just like JoKATEm.

We have leverage against every player coming across extension time except Sengun.
Rockets never bring competition to the center position.

How many points guards do we miss on to play PG?
D Nix, TyTy Washington, Amen Thompson, Reed Sheppard....all the time, effort and energy spent
in replacing Jalen Green all for not.

Edey could be on a rookie contract for the next 4 or 5 years. Not a problem sitting
him on the bench in the playoffs. Not like he makes $20M like Dillon or $42M like VanVleet.

Edey is special I agree with that.

But Sheppard pick also makes we get rid of FVV, which is also special

Keegan Murray was a name that was floating over there......I am sure there are a few more who are just starting to get better but will get better once they seize the opportunity that Jabari never had here.

I am okay with the Amen Pick..........and you could have gotten someone else instead of Sheppard as well. This draft was not even that good.

    • The thing with Jabari was not that he is not useful, it was because at that time of his draft, Jalen Green was struggling mightily.......and to risk another raw player that was supposed to be a 3 and D I personally could not understand that.

    • And to top it off with Amen Thompson who could not shoot .....dayum that takes cojones because on paper it is risky af.

    • And between us, Jalen and Jabari were not picks that Udoka was on board with, he picked Amen and Reed.
So as conclusion, you could see from the hire of Udoka that he set his eyes on defensive players with BBIQ or just IQ on Offense......Amen and Reed.

The gripe is he does not have shooters around them.

I called Tari exactly at #17 over a month before the draft (and the top 16 picks, regardless the order), it should be easy for a professional NBA GM https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/rockets-draft-workout-thread.315787/page-2#post-14094991

half of this forum wanted Senqun before the draft, i'll give Stone his credit for not giving up too much to trade up for the #16 pick tho.
    https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/case-for-trading-up-to-get-alperen-sengun.312093/

Cam Whitmore was #5-#9 on most mock draft. Rockets, with the #4 pick, must have had studied Cam as well. i won't said Whitmore is "consensus" at #20, but it's not like they fond a diamond in the rough. i'll give the FO their credit for taking the risk tho.

High draft picks in the NBA is more about potential, or the ceiling, rather than the floor.

The only question is what is Reed's floor? Is his floor higher than Edey's?

As of now, Edey is a bucket inside of 5 ft.
As of now, Reed is __(?)____.

As of now, Edey will win ROY.

Long term, what is more valuable? A dynamic PG that is lights out from 3? Or a defensive anchor at 5 that is offensively reliable?

You mean like us taking Reed Sheppard at 3?

as of right now Edey has shown much more than Sheppard.

You realize it doesnt cost you anything to say X player will be good right? If you read the board majority of the prospects will be discussed by posters and somebody will say that player is good. I can go around and say every single potential draft prospect in the 2025 is gonna be a star and then cherry pick the ones that come true. Does that make me a genius? So what if you called Tari? Lots of people said Tari was gonna be good. How come Tari lasted till 17 if everybody knew he was gonna be good? Obviously saying something is different from actually using your draft pick to pick him.

If Stone picked somebody nobody has heard off as first rounder thats just a waste of a pick.

You think reed’s ceiling in the nba is a role player who can’t play in the playoffs? I would disagree strongly. He might not hit, but that’s definitely not his ceiling. Edey is way older, i would expect him to be better as a rookie (though he has sucked anyway)

Sheppard is 6'1.75 with 6'3 wingspan. If you look at majority of NBA players with that profile overwhelming majority are only a role player. Players like FVV are the small exception rather than the rule.

Edey is 7'3 and B2B National College Player of the year. If you think ceiling at least Edey dominated college comp unlike Sheppard who didnt really win any award and laid an egg in MM.

If you think Edey has sucked so far then Sheppard is Guangzhong China level.

Let us wait until both are acceptable NBA players first because both are not there right now.

I got no problem rooting for both.

College players and coaches are trash, dominating them when you’re 21/22 means nothing. How can edey survive defensively in the playoffs? I think it’s definitely possible he can be a decent regular season starter, but beyond that i would be stunned.
