I understand the "say nothing til it's proven to be his voice" blah blah blah. But for those already speaking out, it probably won't blow up in their faces. Sterling hasn't denied it publicly, just some doublespeak that amounts to, "I want to apologize to Magic Johnson, he's my favorite Ne...er, colored...er, Afro-A...er, person in the whole wide world."

The price of being a sheep is boredom.
The price of being a wolf is loneliness.

    My thoughts exactly JVG

JVG preaching and i love it.

Considering this is currently a 9 page thread, I think it's pretty safe to say that a lot of people care.

Really proud of JVG's comments in the Clips/Warriors game today. Earlier in the broadcast Mike Breen asked how this situation would affect the players. JVG's response was a blunt "does it matter"? This situation goes far beyond winning a championship and is negatively impacting society.

I just don't get the point of players speaking on it. What purpose did Dwight Howard's comments serve? "Hate is bad. We need love".

    No ****.

Who cares what their thoughts are? Yes, he said a lot of bad stuff. We all know its bad. No need to turn this into some larger story about racism and society and blah blah. It's a bad guy and the league will take care of it.

I totally agree with JVG, but LOL what? I guess the sheep part makes sense but Wolves live in a pack, they are rarely alone. :p

You and I might not care what their thoughts are, but they might. The players are adults, restricting them from merely COMMENTING or voicing their opinions on the issue is rather silly and an overreaction.

It seems like a Les trying to be professional about the situation before he comments on another owner's team. Likely he wants Silver's okay beforehand.

I can understand it and not wanting a distraction at the moment, but when it's all said and done there should be a statement from him and the team where they stand.

Because after professionalism has run it's course, silence becomes basically inaction, acceptance and quiet approval; when using your voice as a leader and action is needed.

JVG the Commentator said that, but i'm not so sure JVG the coach would do the same.
You don't want someone's comments starting a firestorm on the eve of a big playoff game.

The players who might actually want to be able to voice their opinions and not be treated as children and forbidden to talk.

Just because you don't care, doesn't mean all other people don't or shouldn't. Racism is a big issue, and Its a perfect opportunity for the players to say something and take a stand since it involves their profession and people they may care for who experience racism.

Absolutely nothing positive could come from our players commenting on this situation. Good move by the team, I'm surprised so many here don't understand.

And this isn't a case where the owner is discriminating against players. If the owner was actually doing something, then yes, the players should absolutely speak out.

But this owner has a personal opinion that is widely unpopular. We all know how the players and everybody else feels about racism. Nobody is going to speak out in favor of Donald Sterling.

So there really isn't anything to discuss other than punishment.

Like how the Clippers "protested" by all putting their shooting shirts at center court before the game and wore a plain red shirt. What's the point? It's just silly.

    Let the NBA handle it.

I hate to burst your bubble, but management telling employees what they can and cannot discuss publicly happens all the time. Welcome to the real world.

This is about one guy... Donald Sterling. This isn't some systematic racism issue that is plaguing the NBA and the players need to speak up.

This is a Donald Sterling problem.

Don't forget that there are plenty of media vultures whose aim is to incite and stir up trouble. To them, this is an opportunity to draw quotes, take them out of context, and turn them into headlines. They know people are emotional. They couldn't care less about the underlying issues.

I would be really disappointed if the Rockets FO actually put gag order on players. That would be an overreach. To this point, we actually don't have any evidence that the Rockets FO demanded silence. I wish the thread title would be changed.

Regardless of if the FO demanded it, suggested it, or whatever, if I were a player, I'd keep my mouth shut for the time being. I would let the dust settle so I don't put my foot in my mouth. I also wouldn't comment on Sterling or the Clips as a show of support; that's their business and they don't need other players putting them in a difficult position.

However, I do think this is a great opportunity to speak out about racism, tolerance, acceptance, community, and progress in general. You can make impactful statements while you have an audience and microphones in your face without saying a word about DTS or the Clips.
