I'm not one to bash a place I haven't been to and I would have not even the slightest inkling to go to this place...but, like others have said, whomever is giving her business advice is an idiot.

Houston is a great town for restaurants. But don't be the wife of one of the players the fans in this city dislike the most and expect it to be an instant success. Certainly not after her alleged incident in the playoffs. Just a dumb idea.

Most of the reviews have had a humorous, sports, rivalry theme. If she played it right, she could turn it into a huge plus. I would encourage it.

You couldn't have said it better. I can't help but wonder if she did this to troll us??? I mean come on they didn't even put a business logo on there they put a pic of GS celebrating. "International Smoke"? If you ask me it's psychological warfare, a symbolic slap in the face if you will. I used to work at City Centre most likely her restaurant is going to be where the old Houston Texans Restaurant used to be. Most people in that area are willing to spend too, it might not do too bad if she get alot of people who don't know nothing about BBQ to keep coming back. Again they are too many better options here already.

Now I agree it is a shame that people would bash Nobu. I may not even be a fan of Deniro's restaurants but Nobu does have good food. Is it the best Japanese food you can get? Absolutely not! It is just a star filled place that has a very strong name attached to it with consistent solid food. Chef Nobu is also really cool. I had the pleasure of meeting the guy when I got my first cooking job at Morimoto's in NYC. Eventually Houstonian's pallets will eventually mature and see certain foods in a different light.
However, I still have no idea how anyone could have remotely thought opening an expensive bbq bistro in Houston would be a good idea. Heck are they even bringing a big named pit master? Especially when she will be going against big names in the industry that started off in the city of Houston itself such as Jim Goode. This would be just as bad of an idea as her trying to open a fancy French restaurant in NYC with Daniel's, La Bernadin, Brooklyn Fare and others here....
Grilled Oysters? Come on we have New Orleans as a neighboring State and places like the Ragin Cajun and Bayou city seafood and Papas Seafood , hell even Landry's n Willie G's and others that have been doing it great for years!
The BBQ and steak market is already saturated in Houston.
Add that to the fact that she is attached to the name of the most hated team in Houston since the Utah Jazz. What was she expecting? It's no different than Karl Malone opening a place in Houston. I feel bad for Michael Mina. It's attached to his restaurant group and I hate seeing others in my industry fail. This however was not a business decision that was not thought out well. Hell I don't even think Lebron decided to throw his Pizza place in NYC.
I am a firm believer in judging the food first but this one is just really tough to support.

The Rockets new owner owns Landry's right? It's simple. Eat at Landry's and all its subsidiaries.

She wouldn't own this restaurant if her name wasn't Curry.
Then as a Curry you can take what you deserve. Not only the love from SF fans but also the disgust from other teams' fans. It's only fair.

Yes people in that area are willing to spend but just like anywhere else what on earth could she be bringing to the table that is not done better already in Houston. A vietnamese glass noodle dish that isn't even authentic when there are places like the original Kim Son's, Mai's and Tan Tan? I can understand her ability to succeed in an area like SF but in an area where all her flavors are already a staple in the Houston area and is done extremely consistently well, it is going to be tough. Houston already has a huge Vietnamese and Asian community with some of the best authentic food in the nation. So Bao's with her instant bacon, asian pork chops, and all these items are going to have to knock people out of their seats to consistently pay the price. Some of the food all look like dishes that were trendy in NYC mid 2000's to say early 2010's but have already faded out. If anything her salads might be something to try but besides that I don't see anything on the menu even from the San Fran Location that pops. Hay Smoked dry aged beef? Seriously? Texas already has steak houses and pit masters grilling delicious steaks over wood fired grills. Also why mask a delicious dry aged steak with hay smoke? Isn't that just as sad as pouring A1 over a Kobe steak dinner?
In NY celebrity chef Jean Georges decided to open up 66 in tribeca. It was good Asian dishes but on the higher end. The problem was even in a city filled with rich people not afraid to spend on what they eat, China Town wasn't too far away. So why spend the effort for a reservation and getting dressed and punching a hole in your pocket when better more authentic food for a fraction of the price is a drive/uber away?

I would probably rather spend time and money at his casinos first. I love the Rockets but there are certain restaurants I crave when I come home. Landry's isn't one of them. I will support Tillman's ventures in other ways but his chain of restaurants aren't on the top of my list.
