Using northern Chinese posters to judge an entire country's sentiment is akin to someone from China thinking that everybody in America thinks and acts like Honey Boo Boo. Seriously, northern China is the Deep South of America when it comes to blind nationalist pride, jingoism, lack of education or any kind of worldly perspective, and amount of eye-rolling that the rest of the citizens in big cities display when you try to ask them about "those people". Just ignore this and it'll be old news by Sunday.

As a side note: for as much huffing and puffing about the amount of propaganda mainland Chinese people are exposed to, we Americans are just as brainwashed, especially those without college educations who can't tell the difference between some media outlets and others. When it comes down to identity politics and feeling like your "people" are being threatened--by immigration, globalism, or whatever--people can be led on to support absolutely scary policies on behalf of their leaders. What we've seen in the past four years is straight out of the Goebbels propaganda playbook 101. Don't assume American exceptionalism here.

I was born in the dying months of the GDR (Eastern German republic aka Soviet muppets,d from Western Germany by the wall) and it really shows how insanely deep the brainwashing went.

My dad, grandmother and several other ppl I know are still defending what the GDR and Soviet government did and basically repeating the whole propaganda book, some common stuff these people say:

Interpretation is a funny thing, the things that these HK protestors are doing would be considered rioters, hooligans and terrorists If they were to happen in the US. BUT they're being called freedom fighters, activists in the western media. It's moronic
