Everyone in this city cares about the Texans & Astros. The Rockets come 3rd and that is only if they are winning. Bring in Dwight Howard and start making deep runs in the playoffs every year and that will change.
It is if you consider parking and food, unless you just go by yourself. But if you are on a date or have kids....
Much of our population base can't afford to go to Rocket games. Also, the Houston Dynamo is the preferred team by a significant portion of our population today.
Astros really??... I need to get out more.... I wonder whats the age demographic for Astro fans..I'm guessing mostly 45-80.. and newborn-13 yrs old...nothing in between..
You can tell Houston fans are awful by how many Cowboys, Spurs, and Lakers fans there are in Houston.
That's generally how the big cities do it... This isn't OKC or Salt Lake City.... who else you gonna root for there except the local universities?...
Lock Out No Superstar to draw interest Mediocre for the last few years No young, exciting high draft picks to get people interested Economy Houston Texans were good All of that equals a terrible equation for interest. Winning solves everything.
I live in Vegas and was stoked when Rockets joined the summer league here. During that 2 weeks i make it to at least 2 or 3 days... As for other 'fans'... read the posts on this website... typically whiney, cynical apathethic 'if we're not gonna win a championship this year - why bother' attitude... not all - but many....
It's been a common theme esp when the team isn't very good, plus it's a weekday night game. Lots of factors come into play but it happens.
I'll say it again - $2 beers would go a long way to solve the crowd problems: 1. Increased attendance 2. Fans would be a lot more hype after pounding about 5 Bud Lights Also, if there was adequate space for pregame tailgating, it would help as well.
Umm shouldnt it be the opposite? They don't have any other teams to cheer for. But in the big cities, you have plenty of local sports team. No reason to be cheering for a team that's 3000 miles away.
I live in the Miami area and unfortunately must wait for the ONCE a year the Rockets visit town. I haven't been to a Rockets home game since 1993, but I can't imagine our home crowd is worse than the Heat's. They had to send an e-mail encouraging Heat fans to come to the game on time and stay until the end. DURING THE PLAYOFFS.
Austin is only 3 hours away. If you were a true fan, you would buy season tickets and drive down for every home game. After all, we won 2 championships 15 years ago. You are just a fair-weather fan. Let's see....how can I put this.... YES.
How about just make everything cheap and you have fans in the seats? Plus, the ****ing marketing of this team sucks ass and it has been for years. When are they going to get that **** replaced?
