If Dirk didn't win the championship, people would be angry that the Heat won, not because they have black superstar athletes, but more so the fact that those "superstar" athletes are huge d-bags. *Cough* LeChoke *Cough*
Sorry Relentless, I meant to quote the poster you were quoting, my bad. And I totally agree with your post lol. Lmao Jemele Hill...
Well, folks have been saying this about the NBA ever since the 1980s drug scandals yet somehow the league has not only managed to survive but actually grow. And those folks you cite - the big spending Republicans - probably don't support or attend NBA games because it's not their sport of choice which I believe is (1) NFL football and (2) baseball. In fact, if you look at attendance on the flip side of the coin, black fan participation in baseball has been on the decline for some time now. And it's certainly not because of the reasons you cite above: that there are too many "white" players and not enough black players in MLB. Rather, it's due to the fact that for black sports fans, especially the younger ones, MLB baseball is simply not their sport of choice. So to assert that race explains the poor attendance for a mediocre team like the Rockets is way off base IMO. The Rockets attendance will improve when they give Houston sports fans a true contending team to watch at the TC. Their biggest mistake, IMO, was to label Rockets basketball as entertainment because if the Rockets aren't winning or contending, then they aren't very entertaining. Especially over the past 6 years with the Tmac-Yao debacle, lack of playoff success, etc. the Rockets just haven't been entertaining enough to intice folks to forgo watching them at home on their HDTVs and make the effort to see them in person. Not that Les really cares since the seats appear to be sold anyway. I believe that up in Dallas, Mark Cuban understands this which is why the Mavericks go to great lengths to make the fan experience a great one and to me, that is the key to generating consistently good attendance at NBA games.
