Sounds like someone is just sharing snippets about other trades we tried, but eventually decided to go for Bullock and a trade that doesn't return any rotation players.
Jabari emasculated Wiseman in summer league a few months ago. I doubt he is anyone’s answer at center.
Personally, am not a fan of Wiseman, just saying it's a possibility. Summer league and pre-season, Bagley has been out playing Wiseman. If Duren is their starting C this year, Bagley likely cemented as their backup C, which makes Wiseman the odd man out. It's more about options if Stone wants to flip Dipo without giving up significant draft capital. Collins last night didn't just score over Al P, but Dillon, Bari (2x), and Jeff Green (2x). Jock's injury is still questionable and Boban doesn't play. Rockets could hang onto Dipo until mid season for salary matching purposes, but based on news, sounds like Rockets are still buyers. Stone also knows he could be in the hot seat if Rockets come out of the season racking up bunch of losses. Unlike the Jazz, Thunder and Spurs, Pistons as a rebuild team is draft capital poor. Maybe Bullock and Holiday are not the answers, if leak news is credible, sounds like Rockets want another guard / wing. Only pointed out center because fan base seems to want another backup C. Maybe the answer is wait until Jock heals up. Out of the list, Malcom should be the target. Getting him and managing him is another story. Unlike our other current vets, where they might be ok taking a back seat, Malcom wants playing time to build his value up for his next contract. Ime and Stone have to think more about their goals: winning (short term) or waiting (more rebuild).
WIseman was never going to be a physical Center despite him being 7'1 ....around that height. His game has stagnated and his confidence is at an all time low.
I would much prefer to just go into the season with our current roster. Let's see what we have and how fast they can adapt to Udokas plan. Then we can think about making a trade at the deadline. We have big decisions coming up around Green and Sengun. And we will have to wait and see about our other young players.
Yes, that's why he's cheap and more realistic. Pistons wouldn't take Dipo out of charity. Like I said, I'm not high on Wiseman, but positional need, a big might be more useful than Burks. Most teams are focusing on their season already, many of the good options are gone.
We need a big in the worst way. Unfortunately, there are few options and teams want to see what their rosters look like before they make moves. The only positive thing about Wisemen is, he is still young. Olynyk would be good but he's not a rim runner nor protector.
If we really needed a center this would be the guy I'd go after. But really, I'd just let Sengun play 35, Jabari pick up the other 13 center minutes and let Amen and Whitmore play more in small ball.
I totally agree that we need a real defensive big - just saying that "we need a big" and "Wiseman is a big person" are two entirely different topics. Judging from Wiseman's fall to a guy getting torched in summer league I can't imagine he would have defended Collins any more effectively than Alpi. ....and maybe Jock ends up being that banger low post guy but I'm a little concerned that entering year 3 Alpi is still getting out muscled like that in the low post because he was already a concern on the perimeter. Collins hit those shots at such a high clip because he managed to get deep position in every instance. Things would have looked a lot different with Lopez.
Not getting Lopez really shifted some things around. I think we'll go small more than likely. That could really bite you in the playoffs if you match up with Jokic, AD, etc, but we're not title contenders right now anyways. I think we're fine with the roster as it stands. Jabari at the 5 for spells is my preferred method, but I don't want him to do it all season. Jock has to be serviceable.
