Obviously Fran didn't watch the Rockets last year. Chandler Parsons was a rotation player and we still have him, so it's not just Martin and Scola.

The Rockets are trying their hardest to either acquire a star through trade or through youth movement. The acquiring a ton of contracts with various degrees of salary, guarantees, partially guaranteed, non-guaranteed, and positions screams the Rockets have not given up on trying to trade. The plus side, if it fails....the Rockets are poised for the youth movement to begin.

If the Rockets get Howard, the Rockets will not be tanking. The Rcokets have enough flexibility that they should be able to craft a better rotation than Orlando had last year around Howard.

I don't know which way the Rockets end up going and I don't even know if they know at this point. All I know is that they are avoiding contracts that they see will hinder them in trying to acquire a star player in the future.
