    This.

CBS, just tell us what you think of the PICK. Not about imaginary ramifications that have no basis in reality and are contrary to everything the owner and GM have said all along.

Or perhaps if had done a trade to move up when he didn't need to, he should have gotten a C. I agree with the others that taking the best player at your given draft slot isn't worth more than a B. B is a good grade. But, to get an A, he should create some extra value for the team, buying picks or trading (up or down) to optimize the use of his assets. Whether he really did get the best player available, I guess we'll see.

I give CBS Sports an F for their draft-grading abilities.

    Here is one from RealGM.com:

Rockets: The Rockets already have some depth at power forward, but his versatility will allow him to play both forward positions. Rick Adelman had excellent success with undersized power forward Carl Landry, so there's no reason to doubt it won't be duplicated with Patterson. He is a consummate pro and will be another above average player in Houston's core.

I thought the Rockets would cash in some of their future assets to move up, but the value in Patterson at 15 is excellent (ranked 9th overall here) and after Chicago's trade of Kirk Hinrich, holding onto those New York picks might be a good idea.

    Patrick Patterson, 14th

    Grade for Houston: A

You have to give it a B+ or better....Patterson is big dude that plays like a big dude. If the Rockets keep him, he will find a spot in our rotation for sure. He's a good post defender, rebounds wells and that's what the Rockets desperately needs right now. If the Rockets decide to ship him off, then he's just another valuable asset for another team.....win/win

They are getting killed in the comment section. The consensus is that they did a terrible job grading the draft.

The draft graders are giving morey a lot more credit now... If I recall we more c's and b-'s in past years even though those draft moves were insanely shrewd.

I could give them a B+ for not nabbing a back-up center in the second round by buying a pick, but based on the Patterson pick alone, a A- to A for sure.

    Personally I give them a C+

Patterson will probably contribute right away, but he'll never be a player with much upside. Basically the rockets just got another role player... and I thought we had plenty of those already.

    I'd give the pick a B.

CBSsports is stupid for assuming this means Scola is gone.

I'll give the draft an A. I'm very satisfied that Patterson slipped to us. I see him as a 15/9 guy in a starting role, which I thought guaranteed him a spot in the top ten. But then I noticed the teams picking 8-13 all had PF's putting up those numbers. Even we have one right now. I guess good PF's grow on trees, but it can't hurt to grab another.

Toronto made a huge mistake taking Ed Davis. They're banking on his potential, but PP blows him out of the water.

I'll give the draft a B+. Not entirely sure why, but I keep thinking of Rodney McCray. McCray played a different postion, SF, but what has me thinking of him are the guys we passed up when we took him. Byron Scott was the next player picked. Sidney Green, Thurl Bailey, Antoine Carr, Dale Ellis, Jeff Malone, Derek Harper and, at 14, ironically, Clyde Drexler were all players we could have taken and passed on to grab McCray. McCray was a very good player, but we could have done better, hindsight being 50-50 and all that. Will we feel that way later, looking back at this draft? Will we, instead, look at getting Patterson as another brilliant move by Morey to grab an undervalued player who fell lower than he should have? Will a player taken a bit before Patterson, one that we might have moved up for, surprisingly become an all star? It'll be fun seeing how this draft plays out. I hope Patterson is as good as Morey obviously thinks he'll be. I've got my fingers crossed.

i like the rockets pick but I think it was about taking the best player available but may have found someone solid for the pf postion in the future unless yall land bosh something as a spurs fan I would hate seeing as much as I like the rockets ;) but also thought yall would take whiteside or orton with that pick yall need size outside of yao but I guess yall will get a free agent pick but everyone is healthy yall will be stacked

I grade it a C+. We need a very good backup center that can block shots. The grade would be an A if we were able to somehow get Whiteside along with Patterson.
