Looks like the summer of 2015 is coming a year early. I expect the Rockets to dump Lin and Asik and take back as little salary as possible(this will probably be costly). Try to lure a big name free agent to join the team, and then sign Parsons to his big contract. Also we could try to work a trade for Love.

I personally would like the Rockets get their third star and then Pay Parsons whatever he wants. With a third star on board we will be over the cap, so it doesn't matter how much we pay Parsons at that point.

You have to think Morey has an idea of what is going to happen this offseason. He probably already has cap unloading trades (Lin/Asik/Motiejunas/#25) set up to where he can execute them whenever he wants. He gets intel from his players (Dwight and James mostly I would think) about Melo's situation and will go ahead and dump all of the guys we need to if he gets the go ahead.

Yeah, its a win for both sides..it shouldn't be a surprise. As much as a larger deal would help out Parsons, a serious injury next year would hurt him severely. I'm sure the team will help him continue to get endorsements and other deals. If he goes to NY, he'll be in heaven.

There is nothing in 2015. LMA is probably staying now after getting to the second round and seeing that lillard is the real deal. Love is going to LA or boston. Rondo isn't worth waiting a whole year for. kyrie will be restricted.

the best player we could get is melo right now. first the rockets need to get under the cap enough to make the offer. that means getting rid of asik and lin ASAP so they can make the offer on opening night of free agency. one of them could be gone on draft night.

with lin and asik traded, and our other free agents not resigned, we could have a near max offer for melo. assume he chooses to play with H&H over the lakers, mavs, and bulls. what do we do with parsons at the same position? it would have to be a S&T. the fact that parsons is restricted gives the rockets leverage so force a S&T because if the other team doesn't agree to the trade, the rockets can just match the offer and retain chandler.

which teams might pay for chandler this summer? toronto in a S&T for lowry? orlando for nelson and a pick? we could get a pretty good return for chandler. this is a great move by DM insuring that we don't lose our 3rd best player for nothing next summer.

Don't see how we can bring in a terrific free agent with Chandler sticking around.

Parsons caphold is $1,760,350. The problem is moving Lin's contract. The Rockets needed to do that yesterday. As long as his contract is here it hurts their leverage when working deals.

I really fear Parsons getting offered a near max deal. If that happens... best we can hope for is S&T.

Yes, it is a gutsy move. He can be added to a Asik/ Lin package if needed.

You can't sign and trade free agents for other S&T free agents so would shocked if Parsons is being made a RFA for a trade that involves another free agent as the target.

Parsons for a Milsap or Lowry wouldn't really help the Rockets make much ground anyways in talent. If they are moving Parsons its gotta be for a pretty huge superstar. If its not Kevin Love than I'd have to think that they are making this move in order to actually preserve Parsons after they make a separate deal for another free agent signing.

Parsons went from $964,750 to $1,760,350 for cap purposes.

Incorrect. By becoming a RFA, the Rockets must extend Parsons a qualifying offer equivalent to the 21st pick of his draft because he has met the Starter Criteria for RFA, which Bimathug has tweeted to be $3.27mil. In addition 650K of his team option next year is guaranteed. Meaning even though the Rockets declined the option, they still owe him that much. Making his total cap hold to be $3.9mil.

There's no way to spin this. The Rockets purposely screwed themselves in all sorts of ways on the surface. Now we're just hoping there's more beneath the surface that can explain all this.

Well if Parsons cap hold is truely $4m and we can't get Melo there's definitely room for Lowry even at $12 million.

    You misunderstand me.

Picking up Parsons option keeps the door open for max free agency in 2014 and 2015 without having to give up Parsons. Making him a RFA, to me, means he is staying. And if he is staying, it makes me believe that Morey has a trade lined up for someone and doesn't care about the cap space aspect anymore.

Im going to see how all this plays out real quick with the salaries.

God, the amount of misinformation in this thread is depressing. Everyone needs to start reading before they post.

When Morey talks about max cap room, I think he is not talking about Melo max cap room. Maybe he knows he has Lowry in the bag.

    Per Larry Coon:

There is a rule that allows teams to re-sign their own free agents for trading purposes, called the sign-and-trade rule. Under this rule the player is re-signed and immediately traded to another team. This is done by adding a clause to the contract stipulating that the contract is null and void if the trade to the specific team is not completed within 48 hours. To qualify for a sign-and-trade, all of the following must be true:

The player must re-sign with his prior team -- a team cannot include another team's free agent in a sign-and-trade.

So If I read between the lines here, if Morey is making Parsons a RFA for purposes of a trade for a max type player, the only players he is targeting would be Love, or Rondo.

Not sure about ETO guys (Bosh, Lebron) that opt in & then are traded for a S&T free agent, but I think that's a stretch to even think about right now.
