We are determined to clear cap space for third star maybe melo has been talking with Dwight and harden
How are we supposed to get the third star without getting rid of Parsons? It was already a tall order to get rid of Lin + Asik + who knows what else to obtain space for a max deal, but now that Parsons is going to have $4 mil cap hold, it seems impossible.
No, not at all. Might actually make us better if we can find a SF that can play some perimeter defense.
You dump Asik, Lin, Dmo, and # 25 to the Sixers, Bucks, Celtics etc for nothing. You sign Melo for $18-19 million. Utah needs more white guys and decide to offer Parsons $12 million a year, Rockets match and can go over the cap since they have his bird rights. This should be what will happen this summer.
I don't think Parsons is going to make or break this team, if the Rockets can hold onto him for a reasonable salary great, if not, that's okay too.
One factor to consider: the NBA's revenue is expected to go up a great deal in the next few years. One can't be certain about projections 100% but an upward trend seems to be an assumption that team owners are working under. This is expected to lead to an increase in the salary cap, tax level, MLE level, player max salary and every dollar figure in the salary cap math. In fact, next year's cap is projected recently to go up by $5M or so over this year's level. More substantial increases in revenue and salary cap numbers are expected when the NBA's national TV contract expires and a new more lucrative one is signed. If so, a $12M contract may going like a $9-10M contract in just 2 or 3 years and guys to be signed under, say, 2016 numbers are going to get more $ than those signed this summer.
This move would make ZERO sense unless Morey knows Melo or some other star's coming. It's going to destroy any chance at 2015 max capspace.

since parsons is restricted not unrestricted, we can use our cap room (after some trades) to get the third star, then we can go over the cap and match whatever parsons is offered. Les has said that he's willing to pay the luxury tax if it means we become contenders. 3 allstars + Parsons is a hell of a lineup and we'll become instant contenders, if not title favorites.
