Why am I reading nonsense about Brooks going to a contender for big $$? No contender had caproom to sign him.

We overpaid. It’s ok to admit that.

We did overpay, but the Lakers offered 13.4M at the time.

You really think Brooks would have picked us over a contender for like 6 million more? And it’s clear we are all speculating —no one knows who else was bidding for his services.

Do we know the exact year-by-year cap hit?

Reports indicate that the contract value is declining annually, but I have not seen any indication of the magnitude of the decline.

And do we know if the incentives are of the "likely" variety that count against the cap (if I am not mistaken)?

This contract is beyond redemption as far as I'm concerned, but I'd be happier if it is heavily front-loaded and the incentives are triggered under "unlikely" conditions in which he miraculously becomes a good player.

LOL... I was thinking something similar when I saw him hit the side step three. I'm warming up to the signing, but man I really don't want him to affect Tari's minutes.

Lots of talk about contenders offering him something so we had to over pay.. I’m not so sure he was interested in contenders. He was on a up and coming contender and wasn’t happy with the situation(and they weren’t happy with him). By his own words he said he wasn’t happy with his 3 and D role and was looking for MORE shots. Doesn’t sound like someone looking to “fit in” with a contender. I think he wanted Houston all along or a similar situation where he thinks shots will/should be available for him.

thanks for the concise info. i guess the incentives could be "unlikely" but the the year-over-year declines are largely ornamental and so the bottom line is that the contract is essentially as bad as the headline figures indicate.

i don't understand the theory of those hoping that brooks will change his playing habits to emphasize the D and deemphasize the scoring. Losing his irrational overconfidence would be inconsistent with the personality he has exhibited since day 1 in the league. And the irrational confidence that makes him bad on offense also helps him on defense. If udoka has the jedi mind power to reverse people's personalities, we should have added talented lazy a**holes for the vet minimum instead.

Part of the brooks hate rhetoric has clearly been that rockets signed a player who his team didn't want (true) and who was set to play in China (BS) if rockete didn't offer him a contract.

I think people are convinced he was not going to be in the NBA if rockets didn't want him bc no one wanted him which is pure garbage
