I don't know why Morey thought that brooks/martin would work together? I mean do his statistics and "moreyball" take into account DEFENSE???
I think most of it falls on the coaching staff, as elementary as it sounds, most of AB and K-Marts problems on defense could easily be worked on, but it seems like nothing has been done to address it through these three games, because it is the same story every game. But simply put, it can very easily be worked on and made better over a not-too-long amount of time.
This, and only this. People need to chill out, and stop making these pointless threads. If we were, say, 30+ games into the season, then it could cause for concern. But three games? Seriously? This isn't the NFL, where there are only 16 games in a season.
we're also dead last in record... still, we played 3 of the best offensive teams in the league, one during which we decided we'd try to run up the score on them at the same time...it happens.
It is obvious to me that the Rockets miss Trevor Ariza's defense. If someone else has already made this observation, then please excuse me for being redundant. Courtney Lee has nice hops and all, but what he does on offense is already being produced by Martin.
We forgot that a 92 - 85 win is a win by limiting the number of shots teams take. We won championships with defense and rebounding and that is the same today. The Laker's wouldn't have won the title, if Perkins wouldn't have injured his knee. As a result, Rasheed Wallace had to play in his place with a bad back and couldn't D up or rebound. If we play up close on the perimeter they drive around, Shane, AB, and Martin to the hole putting Yao in trouble. If we give them room teams are free stroking the jumper at ease. We also don't get the long rebounds, even though AB and Martin are definitely quicker than there counterparts. We need all 5 to rebound, no rebound no fast break. BTW, does TR Dunn still get a check and hall pass for his supposed defensive coaching skills. It's not translating.
The thing that is bothering me the most about the 0-3 start is the lack of defensive intensity. If you lose a series of games knowing that you played your hardest against your opponent, you tip your hat and say congrats. This current team has shown none of that defensive intensity that we used to see just a few seasons ago. None. In the last 5 minutes, the players need to know that they should stick like glue to whoever they are guarding, stay in front, and rebound like a madman. Don't wait for someone to bail you out. Until the team plays that type of defense, any victories will be fools' gold for anybody to believe the team is back on track.
No worries. They will be able to figure things out very soon and then they can move on to being the team that most of us thought they would be. Contenders.
Scola's defensive liability comes from the way the game is called in the NBA. He's so much better defensively at FIBA for a reason. Scola has got to learn to adjust somehow. Maybe the man is a step too slow to defend properly in this league?
As said in the other thread..Scola's D is underrated here....He lacks some lateral quickness, but with Baskbetball IQ and hustle, he makes it up in D....He has defendedn Dirk and Amare pretty well last year, in games I watched.... The problem Scola has this year in D, would be a problem for almost any inside player...let me explain With good perimeter defense, even softies inside players can play and the team still be winning ... OTOH, with the lousy perimeter D (Brooks and Martin bad defenders, Battier past his prime in D)...Even a tandem Rodman and Mutombo and their prime....would suffer a lot trying to fix the lack of perimeter D...don't you think?
this is why I think Morey is an incompetent GM, he needs to get his head out of number crunching. There's more to it than what the stats say.
That's the reason they gave up 132 points when Yao didn't play. Yao haters ususally don't have any logic, that has been proved over and over again.
