Great point, never thought of it that way, hold on to BJax and the 27th pick and Ron Artest may have gone to New Orleans, wow!
I think people are underestimating Posey. I mean, he's not on the same level as Battier but he's still a great player plus two time NBA-champion.
hmm..but to say, "The headline-grabbing acquisition of the summer was the July 23 free-agent signing of two-time NBA champion James Posey," is a bit homerish to me.
I don't know if Sac was ready to trade Artest for Greene from the get go, otherwise they would've just done the deal on draft day. I have a hard time believing that he drafted Greene with the intention of possibly trading him to Sacramento too. Although Morey seems to have this weird thing of knowing what people want. He was able to nab Scola, when at the time there were talks of him going to somewhere like Chicago. On draft days he is able to buy picks from teams and trade up and down in the draft to get the most value out of what he has. So... maybe he knew Sacramento might want Greene and since we had the expiring that would make us the best choice for Artest.
I'm pretty sure he meant "biggest acquisition of the summer for the Hornets." The writer was talking about the major moves of the Hornets, after all.
Yeah I was just exaggerating. Nothing would stop Morey from making an acquisition he wanted to make. If New Orleans happened to keep pick 27 he probably would just have kept pick 26 and selected Greene there and we wouldn't have had Memphis' 2nd rounder next year, that's all. But Morey's tricksy like that and squeezed every last ounce of value out of his picks.
Morey said something about having good intel about Portland wanting Batum and Memphis wanting Arthur. He knew Greene would be available at 28, so he managed to nab a second round pick from each team in the process. It's comforting knowing that we'll have Memphis' 2009 second rounder (which will likely be high-30's) to replace our 2009 first round pick (which will likely be 30). Morey's the man with the plan.
