Remember Bonzi Wells did all that he did and he was out of a small college called Ball State. White is out of Iowa State.
No problem giving Mason and Diaw their due, my point wasn't to say those two were not good. Just pointing out the differences in their style of play. Diaw was good in the open court but as a wing not in the middle of the break. There's lots of video on the web of Mason and Diaw. Check it out and you will likely see them predominantly making plays in the half court. Usually on drives from 15 to 18 get. What I don't think that you will see much is either guy as the trigger man in the middle of fast breaks.
Having an Anthony Mason on this team would be great. Here is a look at the real Anthony Mason. <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/E9DmWmt5IE4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
..thanks for posting. I forgot how skilled Mason was at 6'7 260. He could rebound and go coast to coast, dribble/spin moves in the paint, and was a good interior passer and decent shooter, as well as great defense. He was a nighmare for teams to match up against. He played the SF slot next to Oakley and Ewing. I remember during the Rox/Knicks championship playoff series, I dropped by Rice Epicurean Market on San Felipe in the Galleria area late one night, and as I walked down one of the aisles Anthony Mason rounded the corner and came walking towards me. Huge, wide dude wearing Knicks sweats, carrying an industrial sized bag of Cheetos (puffed), a half gallon of ice cream, and other random assorted junk food. Must of needed a carbo load for the game the next day.
Not sure why everyone is calling him a PF either, I think he came out of the draft as a *tweener* someone who mainly plays SF but has the strength to play PF if needed (with 8 PF's we don't need him to play that position). I think he's more polished than Morris is and has a definitely position. Morris played PF in college but has played SF before.
I think you are mis-remembering Mason at least. Check out the video CoachBadlee placed up here of Mason. I think the first assist is Mason in the middle of the court running a fast break and I think his first basket is him in the pose. I think overall you and I see eye to eye on White -- I just think Mason and the early Diaw were better than you are giving them credit for and that the comparisons between White and them are very apt.
A couple of things: That first clip that you mentioned isn't really a fast break. The defense was already back and it was just mason binging the ball up the floor. I am sure that at some point in his career Mason did lead a fast break but that was more the exception. There is a pretty well known clip of Shaq leading a fast break during hs rookie year in Orlando but I don't think anyone would suggest that leading a break was one of Shaqs's strengths. I hope that the Rockets will not have to include White in any of the deals that they are positioning themselves for.
Great post and that's what I was gonna say. People on this board want to overhype the rockets players. I like white, but how quickly people forgot mason went to an all star game. People forget he would push off the rebound and find guys. He wasn't explosive athletically, but he was bull. Diaw was touted as a sf/pf who can do anything. When he was in shape,he guarded yao, dirk, and a lot of players. He was a great passer out of the post too. Diaw plays like a lot of euro players, under the rim. He would lose a guy and instead of dunkig,he would do this soft layup. We will see with white and all the other players. I will say I would rather have have a guy coming out of college who needs to add muscle vs a guy who is already developed. To me,its easier to see the transition.
His reading of F. Nietzsche explains his anxiety. He needs to stop reading that nihilistic nonsense. It is very depressing. Hilter got his notion of the "will to power" from Nietzsche. Years ago I read extensively the existentialist writers including Nietzsche. The outcomes were all negative. Life is not meaningless. There is design, hope, and a future. Back to White, I am really intrigued by him, he is likely the "diamond in the rough" that Parsons was last year. I agree that both of them may have enormous potential.
Leading the league in yards and 26th all time. He was 3rd among active running backs when he retired. If Royce is anything near that, we will have our superstar.
Response Royce White seems to be a multi-talented and unselfish player with high basketball IQ. I would not be surprised if he becomes an All-Star within 2 or 3 years.
