they ran it quite a bit actually. mostly to get the smaller guard to switch onto Harden for an iso play. but at least, Harden gets a mismatch which is 10x better than Harden iso on his own man and forcing it.
I don't think anyone has a problem with this. If Lin is having a poor game and Beverly is having a good game, it makes sense to go with the hot hand. My issue is if Beverly is not having a significantly better game, unless Lin is injured or it's a blow out, Lin should be in the game during the bulk of the 4th. There is one simple reason to this... opposing teams play Lin completely differently than they play against Beverly. They defend Lin more aggressively, they shade and show on pick and rolls or out right come out for a double team. Jump shot falling or not, they fear Lin's ability to penetrate to the rim and draw fouls. This creates mismatch opportunities and spacing opportunities for every player on the team, especially Harden. And unlike Beverly, Lin does NOT always need to shoot jumpers to have an impact offensively. He shot 3/9, but STILL had 15 points. His ability to draw fouls through drives to the paint is one of the things that Morey values highly because it has a disproportionate impact on the game vs a simple jumper. Not only does it get freebies at the line, it puts fouls on the opposing team, gets opposing players in foul trouble (forcing them to play less aggressive defense), AND it puts the Rockets into the bonus Earlier, allowing EVERY player on the Rockets to play more aggressively. And unlike a missed Jump shot, a drive into the paint does NOT result in a long rebound. This means you're generally not looking at a fast break opportunity going the other way. Beverly has his moments, but when push comes to shove, this team is about our Starters. OKC made their game plan simple. Try to stop Lin and Harden. It's the blue print every team in the league attempts to use. Without Lin, Harden is basically on his own and the results aren't always pretty. As for sitting Asik, it's simple. Asik should NEVER be sitting through the entire 4th quarter unless the team is way behind on points and the team needs to go very small to close the gap. And even then, Asik should be in the game in the closing minutes if it gets close. You just can't replace 15 rebounds and shot altering through size with our bench. So unless your need for more offense outweighs the need for defense, then Asik should be in the game. Going Small when the game is tied or we have a lead makes the Least sense of all our options...

If JLin was black he probably would have gotten a D1 scholarship out of high school and had the chance to develop his game against elite college competition , so he probably would have been further along in his development as a basketball player
