[/sarcasm] So your saying its not wise that he's taking his rehab seriously, following the doctors orders. Yea he should have hopped on the court Arenas/Oden style, that would be better. And my god...he joked about his weight, someone ship Francis outta here.
The doctors say a lot of things. Its not out of this world that somebody comes back quicker than whats listed. Yao has came back earlier than expected too. We'll see in the next three to four weeks.
because he was all talk. according to his talk, he is more like 20% right now. How can he be 100% in 3 or 4 weeks and so sure? He could be a 100% swimmer by that time though. "I don't want to go out there if I'm not 100% and possibly re-injure myself" right there. since no NBA player is 100%, SF wont be playing any more.
Oh, great read. We have ben waiting for it. Looks like Steve is fired up and he really wants to come back. I hope he'll be really 100% and Adelman will give him a chance.
It's not you he doesn't like, it's Francis...or the peeps who believe he will return to his old all-star caliber form. I'm going to reserve judgement until I see him on the court. I have my hopes, as well as my doubts. The GARM is getting kind of lonely without the usual Rafer, Head, and Francis arguments. Where is DaDakota when you need him? 18 more days until preseason!
It's also possible he will be cut before the season and not even make the 15 man roster. The idea of SF coming back mid-season and getting the rust off seems unlikely. By that time, we should know if our PG rotation, especially the backup position, is viable for a playoff run. Even if it isn't, the Rockets can't assume the untested SF will be the answer. They will be forced to make a move to acquire an active NBA player. Even if they are patient and store him as player #15 for a while, the 3 to 4 week scenario SF mentioned better be what happens or I think he is done as a Rocket.
You think the fans hurt when they see the young francis compared to now? Imagine what Stevie feels when he watches his old tapes. It has to be killing him inside. That right there alone is enough to fuel himself back up.
I'm still holding out hope that he can be a sparkplug off the bench this year. If not, the rockets still have others that could fill that role, but SF would be ideal.
Highly doubt that. SF has a sizeable expiring contract. Morey is too shrewd to let any sort of asset go poof if he can help it.
I just can't see how a Francis supporter could be psyched in any way about the information revealed in this interview. Unless you have some really thick Francis goggles on, you should realize that the outlook is pretty bleak for him in 08-09. If you were not a Francis fan and said you were psyched, that would make more sense. Also, I guess you equate swimming to training and preparing for an NBA season. He said he hasn't played basketball in 8 months and hasn't been able to do any running because of his knee. It doesn't matter if basketball is his livelihood. If he already hasn't played in 8 months, that alone will add weeks to his recovery timeline whenever he is actually physically ready to go. Bottom line: There is nothing to be psyched up about after reading this article if you were pulling for a Francis comeback this season. If you believe what doctors say about this type of surgery, Francis won't even be fully healed until halfway through the season (even that is optimistic), not to mention the time it will take him to get in game shape and in synch with the rest of the team. By that point, Alston will probably be firmly entrenched as our starting PG (assuming no trades occur between now and then) and Brooks will likely be a far better backup option simply due to the fact that he will have been in the mix from day one. On the other hand, if Francis tries to come back too soon, there is a good chance he will reaggravate his knee or makes it worse. It just doesn't look good for him.
Thanks Fritz! You the man! Everyone should make Rockets.com your homepage so Fritz can get a raise from all the traffic hes bringing.
isn't that our biggest expiring contract? I hope Steve can contribute, our PG depth is weak. 5-10min is good enough for me, as long as he can provide us some backup PG minutes.
It depends on the deal and the teams. $2.6 million can be the difference between going over the LT tax and staying under it.
Great great interview and great questions Jason. Really disappointed to hear how Steve is doing , after hearing that interview I am convinced he won't be in the rotation.
DaDakota is one of my favorite peeps on the forums. Honestly, he and tinman keep this place interesting. Where is tinman in this frey?
He's not starting with the rest of his partners, and who starts bad... ends bad, usually. Anyway, last year we all had hopes in Stevie and things went wrong. This year I think its the opposite case, so maybe we have a pleasant surprise... basketball is like that. I see stevie ready to play by 2009, who knows... maybe then he can contribute.
