I imagine it's because he is very raw. The guy doesn't have a very refined offensive skillset. He's primarily a rebounder and, if I recall correctly, an adequate defender. Most likely will end up in D-League.
After this pickup the Rockets now have 20 players on their roster. One player will make the 15-man and almost assuredly be sent to the D-league. This leaves those 4 affiliate spots open with 5 players to fill them. I would assume the Rockets did this just to ensure they could keep him in their system.
the twitter clown woelful said that Sanders may sign with a western team. I only mention it because Woelful has sources with Sanders former agent and a personal vendetta against him so that's the only thing he may be reliable to report correctly. And my bet is that the team is Dallas.
LOL. My thought exactly. Never saw him play. OP's highlight video is only dunks (maybe a couple of layups). Can he score more than 2 feet from the basket?
This guy was technically a Sam Hinkie/76'ers pick a couple of years ago from the looks of it. The Wizards drafted him and traded his rights to the 76'ers on draft night (part of what the 76'ers gave up for him was Glen Rice, Jr. of RGV fame). From looking around the Internet, it seems they seem to have let him go but retained his rights. After that, I guess he played for some Chinese team and the 76'ers summer league team again this year (Hinkie keeps giving him a shot). They renounced his draft rights and the Hawks picked him up for a week or two as training camp fodder, I guess, and then let him go.
I watched him a lot when he was at Oregon. Versatile tweener with great motor. Solid passer from the post with decent mid range game. Above average rebounder who crashed the boards well. Not sure how much PT he'll get but could be a good energy guy who provides spark with the second unit.
