In all honestly I think all those guys are NBDL fodder. FW is a defensive minded bricklayer extrodinare, which is also what Duhon will be. Perhaps Pargo or Wilks can be servicable all-around back-ups, but I wouldn't count on it.
You forgot Jackson, Willis, Rice, Taylor and now Deke. They may not be in the same category as the above, but every year CD tries to improve the team with free agents - it is vey rare that we are on the losing end of a free agent.
this is awesome http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=rotowire-drianriffinowtheulls&prov=rotowire&type=lgns Adrian Griffin: Now the Bulls' Problem
I can't believe they actually have a headline like that. Even if it is a Roto note. And he's going to be cut anyway, so it's his agents problem now.
If A.Griffin were fully fit I would like to have him back from the Bulls but not at the present time.
i don't like deke, never have -- BUT...he could bring a lot of guidance to Yao and though he probably wont play major minutes or contribute a whole lot himself, i think he will help Yao be even better defensively.
Really? How many of the more sought after free agents have we actually signed in the last 10 years? We're in the running for alot of guys, but they don't usually end up signing here. More often, we've waited and signed guys when it was apparent that there wasn't much of a market for them. Who are our biggest free agent signing since '94? Mo Taylor @ $2.5M ? Bob Sura for around that same amount? Kevin Willis for little or nothing? We haven't made much of a splash in the FA market over the last decade. Our primary roster moves have come via trades, not FA signings.
Well technically Pippen wasn't a FA signing but that had to do with salary. Shandon, MoT, Pippen, and the fact Francis and Tmac forced trades to the rockets was almost as good.
Pippen was techincally a trade, but for all intents and purposes it was a free agent signing. Edit: sorry rockbox beat me to it.
I agree that Pippen would have signed here if Chicago hadn't agreed to a Sign and Trade. Francis and TMAC were both acquired in two pretty big trades where we gave as well as got talent. So, again I'll say that a 10 year haul of Mo T, Shandon Anderson, Pippen, Willis and Sura hardly makes us a hotbed for FA signings.
The opportunity to win a championship playing with Yao and TMAC will attract us some good, team oriented, FA's that are wanting a ring next year and in coming years. That is what attracted Pippen to Houston to begin with. He saw Hakeem and Charles and thought he could steal another ring down here. It didn't work out and he turned out to be a jerk, but he wanted to come here and win another ring. Because of our superstars, and the real possibilities of winning multiple championships in the coming years, free agents will be attracted to Houston...............................................not to mention all the city itself and no state income taxes.
yeah but all were with MJ he had and still has the stigma of playing with MJ and collecting rings with MJ. pippin wanted so badly to have another ring without MJ at his side. sort of the same situation with kobe right now, but kobe being much younger than scottie was will have a better chance of winning a ring without shaq, provided he has the right talent around him because scottie had like 2-3 good years left in him after he left chicago. kobe has at least 8 good years left
Good point, but what I meant was we haven't lost many of our great players to free agency. Even if you do consider what we've done the past 10 years in trades and free agency- Drexler, Barkley, Willis, Pippen, Rice, Taylor, Jackson, now Deke - that's not bad. the only teams that even come close to acquiring as many big name players are the Lakers and possibly the Mavs and Kings. Did you think we'd sign Kobe? When you have a salary cap and most of the money tied up with the current players, it's hard to sign the biggest name every year. This isn't baseball and we're not the Yankees.
