I'm fine with Mutombo as long as he doesn't do that finger-wagging crap. I actually think he is not a downgrade from Cato.
And even after that, NJ paid him 30 million dollars not to play for them any more! http://www.detnews.com/2003/pistons/0310/10/sports-292204.htm
No problem. Whoever shows up in shape, healthy, and willing to play hard (and smart) will the get PT. Competition is a good thing.
It's plain and simple to see what we are getting in this deal. I know people are saying he can't play he did this in NJ etc etc but that's the same with Juwon Howard. They hate the guy even though his numbers are good, because of his crappy contract. NJ brought in Deke to help their defense but he doesn't fit that scheme. He couldn't run the floor like they could and he would just end up tired. With JVG system he is going to just come up the court and clog the middle like he is supposed to. Being known as a shot blocker will give us that much more help in the middle causing people not to drive in as much when Yao is in the game. If we don't have someone with his decent ability to block shots and play defense then other teams are just going to exploit us left and right. We didn't need a center that is going to score points and be flashy etc, we just need someone to come give Yao the 15 minutes or rest that he needs and not really mess things up in the process. I like the deal and really think it's going to help us over the season.
The Nets also signed Eddie Griffin and re-signed Richard Jefferson to a ridiculous contract, and let Kenyon Martin sign with the Nuggets. The Nets havnt always made wise decisions.
One thing for sure; this is now Van Gundy's team. It was drastically shaken up, and put back together with players fitting VG's style and to his liking. So if the Rockets do not win, the honeymoon's over. That said, I like our chances.
Look at the eyes, man. Look at the eyes. When you see this, dont you want to sing..... Risin' up, back on the street Did my time, took my chances Went the distance now I'm back on my feet Just a man and his will to survive So many times it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past You must fight just to keep them alive It's the eye of the tiger i'm feeling so good Rising up to the challenge of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he's watching us all With the eye of the tiger Face to face, out in the heat Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry Sam stacks the odds still we take to the street For the kill, with the skill to survive It's the eye of the tiger i'm feeling so good Rising up to the challenge of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he's watching us all With the eye of the tiger Risin' up, straight to the top Had the guts, got the glory Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop Just a man and his will to survive It's the eye of the tiger It's the thrill of the fight Rising up to the challenge of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he's watching us all With the eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger
Three guys that did nothing last year and probably would do even less this year given the limited minutes they would have gotten because of the revamped roster. Deke fills a big, big hole, as far as being washed up, compare his stats to Cato's last year, very close. He is an 8 time all-star that will come into camp wanting to be the starter and not the backup, that kind of competition will be good for Yao. I hope we get him.
Im pretty sure he's just talking about the work ethic and attitude he brings...i mean we all know there is no one going to start over Yao on this team
