I wonder if Les conducts technical interviews, inquiring about certain situations. Say, for example: 5 seconds left, inbounding at half court, down by 2, what play do you design. Or maybe some behavioral questions: Cuttino Mobley just jacked up another missed 3 without setting up the offense, what do you do?
I think it's more along the lines of: A. Can you get us back to the playoffs? B. How much is this gonna cost me?
I believe any interview will also involve Les asking if he's fine with CD being his boss. If Les says no, then I think Dunleavy or Van Gundy get the job. At the end of the season, Les said that stability to the organization is a key. Did he mean that if Rudy is replaced, he wants to get a strong replacement, but keep the chain of command in place and the scouting team in place (Lindsey); or did he mean that he'd accept giving all the decision-making GM, Scouting and Coaching to one main, if it were the right one. Something tells me that Les is not going to put everything into Brown, considering his questionable personnel moves and penchant for moving on. I think the "stability" thing will include CD staying the boss of the coach, and Larry might not go for that, whereas Dunleavy and Van Gundy will.
It's the second time the article has changed today, at least the first time it didn't contradict the older part. Is anyone buying this Clippers thing? I could even understand Denver, but the Clippers just have too many variables (who will re-sign?), and their owner & GM are a laughingstock.
to be more realistic, i think its more like: 1. what kind of offence/defence are you planning on using with our team? 2. what kind of roster moves do you feel are nessesary to achieve your offencive/deffencive system?
Freak, you are saying a 2nd rounder for Mario Elie WASN'T a significant trade? sorry your beloved, overrated Rudy is gone . . . face the facts, Rudy T will NOT be coaching the Rockets next year! Enjoy your sulking!
excuse me for somewhat repeating myself...but imo, Brown can lose this job in an interview. imo, those are not questions they'll ask. #1 is downright insulting to Larry Brown, and he won't answer it anyhow--"uh, Les I'd develop that in Fall camp, and you wouldn't understand it even if I 'splained it to you." #2 is CDs job, and Larry Brown's track record for controlling that is not his greatest lines on his resume. CD will ask about his staffing, scouting, off-court player management, practice and media relations issues and how he likes to work trades and conduct drafts. Les will ask him about salary, staffing demands (more costs), and feel him out for willingness to accept CD as his boss. This is how Larry will lose the job to Dunleavy or Van Gundy, if he is unwilling to accept working in the Rockets Organization with some very defined limitations. Brown's reputation for flakiness with commitment is what caused him to lose the North Carolina job, and Les will test his commitment and willing to work with limits that protect the stability of the franchise longterm...and the stability guarantee for Les is Carroll Dawson. I do not believe Les will allow Brown to control everything.
This is a good thing. Larry Brown may be an excellent coach but his personel moves haven't always been on target. When you control an organization for 6 years and haven't put the pieces together, what do you do? Leave. Couldn't get a big man to Philly? Go to a team that already has one.
Is Van Gundy really the most stable of coaches? I never really understood his departure from New York.
Well, whatever you think of his personnel moves, being able to get rid of 7 feet 2 inches of uselessness with a max salary for the next 3 years that is 37 year old Dikembe Mutombo goes down in history as one of the greatest moves I have ever seen.
During Brown's resignation press conference, he said, "he still has a passing for coaching..." Not being a GM! We have the perfect team for him. Extremely talented and young, but... - They haven't realized how to be a team - How to play their role in a team - How to make their individual games make the team better - etc. C'mon down Mr. Brown
I started a thread not too long ago asking why Kenny Thomas was able to help out more with the 76ers. Just imagine, if Brown could get the majority of our players stepped it up just enough... We could be headed down the road to the championships... Hell, at least the playoffs.
I just cannot imagine why ANYONE would want to coach the Clippers even if it means being in your city of choice. I wouldn't care what Donald Sterling told me. He could offer me money, decision making authority, the ability to re-sign players...hell, he could offer me live naked Baywatch in my living room and it wouldn't be enough to convince me Sterling has any genuine interest in winning. If Brown really does choose the Clips over the Rockets, man, we freakin' don't want him.
I was gonna start a new thread.....but oh well. I'll say it here. Okay. On Monday, May 26, 2003, Larry Brown resigned from the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team. At the press conference where he announced his resignation, he said he and his wife Sherree or Shellie were going to sit down and take a while to think about what they wanted. Okay. And then...... On Tuesday, May 27, 2003, ONE ENTIRE DAY AFTER HIS RESIGNING, he meets Les Alexander and Carroll Dawson.....or he is interviewed. HMMMMMM...this is another indication to me.
Well done Smoothie:- and to the point!! Brown answers:- The inside outside game and we need a strong defencive man at Power forward,to help our Big Men.We need a much better back up Point Guard that likes to be a playmaker. I feel that Posey should start at Shooting Guard and possibly a trade of...... for....... I would like to get Nachbar involved right from the set go,so I will have him playing with the guys at Fonde and Westside, under the watchful eye of Mario Elle. That's all that off the top of my head. I will have to wait till I get into Houston Next week to make an accurate team evaluation!
First thing LB told KT to do is losing his weight so that he is quicker. That tells LB really how to handle a player skills.
Jeff said it all. The only thing I worry about is that, I prefer the coach of a team to be it's GM too. CD and Larry Brown are 2 different human beings who may have different views on systems/players. We can't have Dawson thinking we need mroe defense, and Larry thinking we need better shooters. We need to stick to ONE man's system, and let him complete his vision of our future team. I guess it all depends on how well Brown and Dawson would get along, and how much they agree on the Rockets' future.
we can hope Brown takes the Rockets job as the indicators are going in our direction. He'd be stupid to take the Clippers position. No other opening is as good as the Rockets. We have more pieces together than any other team. New Orleans will end up with Fratello; Dunleavy will go to Atlanta; Van Gundy will land in Philly; Silas will land in Cleveland. Dennis Johnson will keep the position in Clipper land.
