we already have backup center and three other power forwards

... and Sura has a bad knee, our 2 SGs are 34 and 35 years old (and Sura's 38 yr old "backup" just arrived from the rec center and is 2 for 23)

Hell. Why not. Mo ain't doing us any good. If we're going to be financially strapped, we may as well use the person getting paid.

Why the Trailblazers would want another pot smoking soft forward, I'll never understand, but if they would swap Derek Anderson for him I'll take it.

I remember when Yao was drafted, Les claimed Rockets is the best team ever?
Now everybody is gone except Yao.

Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)
Houston receives: SG Derek Anderson (10.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.3 apg in 29.3 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +2.5 ppg, -1.2 rpg, and +1.9 apg.

Portland trades: SG Derek Anderson (10.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.3 apg in 29.3 minutes)
Portland receives: PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -2.5 ppg, +1.2 rpg, and -1.9 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston and Portland being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Portland had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Neither can Mo...he's a tweener himself. Not a true 4, nowhere near a true 3.

Its the chance that DA might actually play decent here. We know what we have in MO, so if DA sucks it up here its no big loss. However there is a chance the change of scenery might revive DA's game. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I dont think he can play much worse than MoTay anyway so why not take a shot at getting better? Plus Sura cant keep up the ironman act all year.

the article says the two teams "discussed" a deal. it did not say they are "discussing" one. the deal may have already fallen through. although this seems good for both teams so why not do it?

may they (probably Portland) wants to see if any other, bigger deals (like for Miles and SAR) invovling DA come through... if nothing happens closer to the deadline, they can call the Rockets (its not like Mo is going to be off the block in mid February)

MORE ON THE POSSIBLE TRADE FROM ESPN INSIDER---
Looks like Derek's got a lot of problems though....

    http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/rumorcentral?sport=nba

Feb. 4 - ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that the Rockets and Trail Blazers have discussed a Maurice Taylor-for-Anderson swap.

For his part, Anderson wonders if he is long for the Blazers. The Feb. 4 Oregonian reports Anderson is suffering from intense migraine headaches and a loss of 10-to-12 pounds in the past two weeks. He's also bothered by being replaced in the starting lineup and inconsistent playing time.

"I feel like I'm lost in the shuffle somewhere," said Anderson, who after this season has two years and more than $18 million remaining on his contract. "Like I'm lost in this whole organization."

The Oregonian reports the Blazers front office and coaching staff are questioning his work ethic, but Anderson insists he is suffering from various ailments. He was set to undergo his third root canal in two weeks on Feb. 4.

Wow maybe taking this guy on will just cause more problems in the locker romm. Though id still pull the trigger on the trade. Once he is on a team that wants to win he will change his attitude and his work ethic kind of like T-Mac.

I think Portland is doing it cause they're moving one of their forwards. Probably D. Miles.

xiki, thanks for the article. It pretty much spells out DA's health problems. I didn't read anything that would worry me, other than the "bulging disc" part, which was a while back. If that's not a big deal, which a physical should show, the other things should clear up with the operation and dental work he's been getting. I've had problems with... hell, I've had all his problems. :D

If the back's OK, get him. The other stuff is being fixed.

    Keep GARM Readable!!

yup. he is going through a lot right now with his mother, root canals, being given less PT, not knowing his role, not feeling like he fits in....no wonder this guy spazzed out on them.

lets get him while he is going for cheap. give him a clear role (JVG is best at that) with consistant minutes. he will be closer to his mother in houston, and his root canals will heal. he will be back to the old DA in no time.

sounds to me like Mo wants to come off the IR to play for the ROckets (who would rather keep him away) and DA wants to avoid playing for the TBs
