it only works if we add a Spoon - (which makes it VERY far fetched)

... maybe it is just Anderson for Mo

    ___________
Houston trades: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.1 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.4 minutes)
PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)
Houston receives: PG Jason Kidd (13.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 7.1 apg in 34.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +3.6 ppg, +0.8 rpg, and +5.5 apg.

Portland trades: SF Darius Miles (12.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 26.9 minutes)
    PF Shareef Abdur-Rahim (15.7 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.3 apg in 35.2 minutes)
Portland receives: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.1 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.4 minutes)
PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)
PG Zoran Planinic (7.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.9 apg in 18.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -10.9 ppg, -4.1 rpg, and +0.3 apg.

New Jersey trades: PG Jason Kidd (13.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 7.1 apg in 34.6 minutes)
PG Zoran Planinic (7.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.9 apg in 18.6 minutes)
New Jersey receives: SF Darius Miles (12.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 26.9 minutes)
    PF Shareef Abdur-Rahim (15.7 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.3 apg in 35.2 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +7.3 ppg, +3.3 rpg, and -5.8 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

There were BYC players involved in this trade, so this trade is subject to the BYC provisions of the CBA. Due to Houston, Portland, and New Jersey being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston, Portland, and New Jersey had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

I know it's very unlikely. But something is wrong today, someone in another thread talked about KG+TMac+Yao, now is Kidd+TMac+Yao, those are all fabulous combinations. But the first one is impossible, the latter one unlikely, still a little bit more realistic than the first one. Money could be the only issue. Everyone can see how Nash made Amare better, bad knee or not, VC was crap for the past 1.5 seasons, but played with Kidd a couple of weeks, all of a sudden, he was Player of the Week again. Kidd want a championship, really badly, and he also mentioned he would love to play with Yao before. If, only if, there is a remote possibility to make the cap work, we should definitely pull this one. And I can see Yao willing to play for less than Max, if we can land Kidd. Can I see championships? Hope so. But I guess you guys just keep adding stuff to force me have wet dreams:D

    Interesting thread.

Sure, who wouldn't want Jason Kidd? But that contract. Imagine this team's payroll in three or four years. Even Mark Cuban would choke on that. Well, maybe. We'd be at about 70 million.

Of course, if Les wants to WIN....

(Makes me wonder what Phoenix is gonna do with all those max players: Nash, Stoudemire, Marion.)

The Mo-for-Anderson trade makes some sense, if only because it doesn't get too far-fetched. I know if Kidd gets traded that he has refused to wind up in Portland.

There are plenty of teams out there that would love to get Shareef Abdur-Rahim, and now they might get the chance, if this should come to pass.

Maybe if we routed Derek Anderson elsewhere? I mean, we do have way too many guards, and that's excluding Tracy McGrady as de facto small forward.

I just realized that Mo and DA are both former Clippers drafted a year apart.

    Kind of ironic.

Is money an issue with this team??

Surely - in terms of merchandising - this has GOT to be one of the most viable teams in the world!

And adding one of the more popular players in the world (Kidd) couldn't hurt the bottom line THAT much??

70million is a LOT of salary - but what is that when compared to TMax/ Yao/ Kidd merchandising $$??

Would I want Kidd?? Not sure.... seriously!! Is his knee any good? Can he still move side to side?? Is he even a really good shooter??? Is it worth the "handcuffing" in salary terms??

If you are over cap, you have to pay luxury tax. I believe there is revenue sharing as well.

Kidd is a pass first pure PG, a great rebounder, maybe not an excellent shooter, but he can make a jump or a 3, if it's needed. With the fire power in T-Mac, Yao, and now Padgett, he doesn't need to shoot:)

Do we have too many guards?

I'm not convinced that we do - we have Sura and Wesley and Barry who can make good contributions. But apart from that the guard situation isn't all that great! And if Sura succumbs to this knee injury, we're not left with a whole lot!

Barrett/ Ward/ Gaines are nothing to write home about, and Strickland is just old! I'd be happy to dump one of them if DA was coming our way!

Picking up DA is a no-lose situation for us, especially if we can dump Taylor + one of the "extra" guards (Ward??).

BTW: Any chance that maybe Portland is interested in shipping Randolph out as part of that three way deal - and getting Jersey's first round pick?? They could dump Randolph and Miles to Jersey, take on Taylor and get picks. Reefer is gone at season end (isn't he??) - rebuild?

But isn't that the problem? Kidd will shoot! I agree that he IS pass-first, but he's also a player who takes lots of shots!

Of course a lot of those shots are because he creates a quicker game - so he makes more shots for everyone else too....

What am I talking about?? I'm not complaining if he lands in HTown....

Trade for Kidd just doesn't make any sense. Look at the ages of our roster, you know we are going have to start to sign other young players when our old guys worn out. And with Kidd's contract, we gonna be way over the cap for next 5 years or so, that means we are not going to have any money to sign any decent players.

The Kidd trade is just to keep people talking.

If we get DA, can't we turn around and trade him like Rasheed and the Hawks last year?

Still, with Sura about to collapse, DA might make sense.

Jerseys only generate revenues for the team if it's sold in Toyota center. Also, if you're under the cap, you get a share of the escroll from the team over the cap. I think some one mentioned how going over the cap to sign Posey would've actually cost Les close to 20 million that year. (Salary + Lux tax + the money that he wouldn't have gotten from escroll).

There's no way he makes money back from merchandising if he signs Kidd. And if we have a 70 million dollar payroll, thats around 15 million over the cap, 15 million tax + I would say atleast 6 - 7 million lost in Escrow. 37 million is a lot of money to try and make up in attendance (Houston's a little bad at that) and advertising ( players get more advertising, but doesn't directly affect less unless you get some more Tsingtao deals, but there won't be enough to make up the difference).

It's not our money so we can say Les should does what he can to win, but 37 million dollars is a lot of money even for rich folks.

P.S. not exactly sure of all the rules, so those who trully know, please double check some of the things I've said. However, I am sure that Les would probably lose a lot more of his money than he can make back by getting Kidd.

I remember proposing this very same trade idea this past offseason. It Portland gives it the go, there is NO reason AT ALL for Houston to balk or for any of the fans to disagree.

DA would be effective as either a starter or maybe even more deadly off of the bench as an "instant offense" player.

I don't know what is going on, but it sounds like we're going to get some value for Taylor very soon. I'm excited. Not that any of you care about my opinion, but I don't think it will be Kidd.

Query: Can we get rid of Strickland, Barrett and Ward's contracts? If we were smart, there should be clauses that would allow us to waive them.

Or could be really be that dumb?

BTW, in my opinion, if we get Marshall, the best place to start him is SF. Assuming the DA trade goes through, we'd have a pretty athletic and experienced roster.

    Sura/Wesley
    T-Mac/DA
    Marshall/Barry
    Howard/Padgett
    Ming/Mutombo

That's alot of height. Marshall is soft for the PF, but has good range.
