Portland wants to keep Damon so he can come off the salar books in the offseason. hence no chance they'll trade him to us.

Good suggestion. I think the Blazers are looking for a 2 or a 3. Just someone that can hit the outside shot and open things up for Randolph downlow. KVH is kind of a 3/4 tweener but can play the 3. I could see that deal going down if the Bucks want to move salary so they can resign Redd in the offseason. And KVH is a good team guy that the Blazers are looking for.

What about NVE? Giant contract next year too.

The Blazers have a team option on him.

If that is what they are looking for, and presumedly what we are supposed to get in DA, then why do they want to do this trade?

To me that says a ton about what DA's future prospects are in the league and what he can (or can't) bring to the table, right now.

He has never been an above average shooter or an above average decision maker. While not a terrible shooter, nor bonehead, the times he has been an effective player are due to his athleticism, and that appears waning.

I think I'd want at least an extra 2nd rounder to do a MoT-DA swap. MoT has his weakness, but he will be playing and contributing in the league for a while. A guy like NVE or Damon, who also have faults but are far superior in things that last (shooting ability, scoring instincts, floor sense) and who are natural 1s, would just mean so much more to current Rocket team.

You are usually on such matters but are you sure in this case?

Bender's cite has NVE FA 06 (Stoud in 05--which is definetely correct).

Realgm has NVE having one more year than Stoud as well.

Are you sure it isn't NVE option which he is sure to take for like 10 mil?

Team option on NVE. He claims to want to play in TX next year, or retire.

Hoopshype has him with a team option.

USA Today seems to confirm...Van Exel will make approximately $12 million next season — the last guaranteed year on his contract.

Portland Tribune also backs me up... Van Exel has one year remaining on his contract at $11.8 million, plus an additional nonguaranteed year.

I suppose this is hope that hoopshype is right on the Charlie Ward deal?

That was awhile ago. I doubt it's still the case, though I also don't think he'd turn down the Rockets' MLE (or Mavs') if it were offered.

Wait, I think we are in agreement. NVE has 1 more guaranteed year at 12 million (I assume from USATODAY it is 05-06). Stoud is a currently expiring contract and a FA after this year (04-05). So what I was saying is they would be more interested in moving NVE with another big year of salary due next year.

I would also guess if they could move NVE contract they could save about 2 mil off next year for MoT-Gaines-Bowen (though they admittedly they committ more later) and be more willing to invest more money in the 1 spot and resign Damon.

Wait, scrath the above. Those articles were written in July, so they would imply the last guaranted year was this year. So I really don't know the story from conflicting sources.

No. Read the articles. They are from this past offseason- this IS the 1 more guaranteed year.

I thought to search them because I remember thinking what Golden State was doing was ridiculous.

Edit: Just saw your edit. Here's another confirming source
