i don't have a belief regarding Yao's health. i hope he stays healthy....i do not think he will. i would not bet on it.

I will bet Yao plays 70+ games this year and is ready for the playoffs as the starting center.

I don't understand? Unless you have a time machine and could somehow warp back in time and do something to stop Yao getting hurt on every occasion then what are you trying to say? It should read "And they are certainly correct but they could be also wrong because of the existence of big Z."

Yao is an incredible freak of nature. He has stunning coordination and athleticism for a human his size, basically unheard of. Its all on those massive tree trunk legs as his base and his feet are the roots. He is probably going to have a shorter window, and based on the evidence.... that's just reality

Thats not being negative - thats being a knowledgable sports fan based in the reality on this earth - where Yao Ming has a history of injuries.

But by all means lets hope he can stay healthy because he our best player by far and i'm a Houston Rockets fan so I LOVE me some real centers.

 

True we are in uncharted territory and common sense would say that a 7'6" man with 300 pounds is going to put undue pressure on his feet.

However, Big Z came out of this OK, and you just know that if it is HARD WORK that makes the difference Yao will be Golden.

Could his feet break again? Certainly....they already cracked twice in the same spot......that is why they reshaped his foot.

Let's hope the doctors know what they are doing, and that the team is smarter about how they manage and monitory his minutes and feet.

I believe that a smarter approach to playing time will help Big Yao extend his career, and if that means playing only 28 minutes a night...then so be it.

On offense, I can see the resemblance.

Unfortunately, on defense the Spurs have the advantage at every position except PF (if you are comparing Prime Bowen to Current Battier), including coach.

But still interesting thread, I never thought of it that way.

 

Man, I wish Yao was as good as Duncan, but pretty solid comparisons, I suppose.

The only way that this team can be like the Spurs is Yao being healthy. I'm praying to God that Yao plays an entire season, and play-offs with the NBA Finals, without injuring himself and hopefully at 100% once play-offs begin.

Otherwise, it's just something only us Rocket fans can dream about.

 

If Max doesn't take that bet...I will.
