Agreed one thing we have going for us is it isn't Yao's knee like Webber. But then again Yao is 7'6 with foot problems and that is a scary thing for our organization.
I would rather be in the Rockets position with a restructured foot than Webber and his microfracture...... DD
Christie was not that great Good defender but all he did was hoist up 3s and CLANKED them Rocket River
I'd love for the Rockets to be this years '01 Kings. That squad would score in bunches against most of the league and always against us. We would be down by double-digits by halftime and they would just gradually add on until the end when we would lose by around 20. I am optimistic and I am hoping that Yao's surgery will be as successful as it has been for Big Z (7 or 8 years) and be the low post presence that we have so desperately missed for over a year. I can't wait to see the old 'new' look...err I mean the new 'old' look...ehh, I just wanna see 'em ball....Go Rox..
Me too. Both are tough situations to be in but the knee has ended so many careers. Yao had the same surgery as Big Z and his foot has not bothered him the last few years so there is hope.
I'm guessing you didn't watch the Kings play very much. In addition to being a plus defender, Christie was a big part of their offense. Though like pretty much all the other Kings not named Bibby, he disappeared in the last few minutes of some big playoff games.
had the kings not gotten hosed by tim donehue (however u spell his last name) they would have won atleast one championship ..
it is scary for this year but considering this is the last year of his contract .. its not devastating to us bc if he doesnt get back to where he was.. we either sign him to a lesser contract or not sign him at all .. either way we will have salary to work with considering battier, jefferies also come off the books and both are making close to 13 min combined this year
Are you talking about the Kings of 2001 or 2002? Because the Kings of 2001 got demolished by the Lakers in the playoffs.
The BIGGEST difference is the Kings had a closer, which AB has not proven to me, he is highly unreliable in crunch time (especially at the FT line). Bibby was SO clutch and that won them countless games. I loved that Kings team, as I'm sure a lot of people did, but honestly I believe that is biggest difference. If we can get someone who can close a game (AB may become that guy, and I'd LOVE to be wrong and see that happen), but I don't know if he will become that guy and without a consistent game ender, I'm not sure how far this Rockets team can go.
again NBA superstars are mostly ineffective ball handlers unless you can impact the game like Lebron or CP there is no way he'll fit into the system Heck even a Melo is not the best fit. He does little else besides scoring. I don't know if we really need superstars Having STARS would be fine with me. Yao is the superstar off the court as I said.
It'd be nice, but Yao doesn't have the mobility of Webber. Divac wasn't a major part of the offense. And considering so much of the offense needs to run through Yao for us to be successful, we are already looking at a team that needs to score in different ways than that Kings team.
This Rockets team will be good offensively, but the starters are soft as a pillow. In fact the bench with Lowry, Miller and Patterson will be the "tough guys" for us. It will definitely be an interesting season, especially if Yao can remain healthy, but I have serious concerns with our toughness or lack of it vis a vis our defense.
