Do people realize Caron Butler is a worse three point shooter than Iguodala? This deal just seems like a band-aid for the Rockets team, just to tell fans "hey we got something for McGrady!" I won't be happy if the organization thinks they can win with just Caron Butler -- I hope there's another trade in the works if this goes down.
lol, someone that has been in the league for what, 7 years, isnt going to all of a sudden become a 3 pt shooter, regardless of who else is on the court. But, we don't really need another 3pt shooter. Battier, Brooks, and Ariza can shoot the 3. Obviously having another 3pt shooter would be great, but not needed. Although I see us trading Battier or Ariza in the offseason (if we get butler), which then we will need a 3pt shooter replacement.
Your sarcasm is appreciated, but unfortunately you failed to understand that I was talking to the general masses who have continually said that Butler is a better shooter and laughed at the notion that Iguodala was a threat from the three point line as a reason for not wanting him. Butler is no different, but it's gone largely unnoticed in my eyes. Thanks for your contribution though - your quality post make the GARM more educational and a better overall place! Please continue your attempts at humor instead of adding to the discussion. By then it will be too late! He's NEVER been a good three point shooter, so any fantasy of him benefiting from Yao kick outs should be out the window. Throughout his career, he's shown his inability to knock down the three ball. When you consider that, Iguodala's game brings us MUCH MORE than Butlers - albeit at a much more hefty price tag.
I get the feeling the Rockets like Butler's contract as much as his ability. It looks like an one foot in, one foot out move. If Yao's finished, Butler's contract will be expiring anyway.
Looking at the Iggy vs Butler debate.. Both are very very similar in stats for this year.. FG%,Rebounds,Shot attempts, minutes,FT attempts (Butler has a small lead in the % category) But Iggy is younger, Hardly ever gets injured and seems to find the open man better (assist). The only thing i see with Butler is an expiring contract next year. Morey is probably looking at options because of the CBA and hopefully joining on the Durant sweepstakes.. Who knows but I trust Morey..
Bad move. Sounds like Morey wants Butler straight up for T-mac so that they don't lose any core players. Still, bad move. We really could use a true center right about now.
Then what's the point? We can restart if Yao doesn't make it back without giving up a piece. If there's a likelihood that we just let Caron/Yao expire next year, is that really worth losing Budinger over? Is Caron Butler for a year worth losing Budinger for several years? I'm not sure. This is based on my thoughts that Caron Butler, by himself, does not make us a championship contender. I think he's a great third option on a team, but I'm not sure a team can win with him as the second option.
Just remember what ever happens nobody will ever expect it AND the orginization is always aiming above everyones thoughts.
Kwame Brown is your response to my post? Really? And what did the Lakers flip Kwame for again? Some guy named Pau Gasol. And didn't I say in my first post in this thread that I hope to flip Caron for something better (even though I realize it's harder to flip an older player)? The point is that Caron wasn't in the plans for the Lakers, he didn't fit the triangle offense, which makes me wonder how he'll fit in here. What Kwame did is irrelevant, especially when he was flipped for something better. Everybody knew Kwame was an underachieving knucklehead, and the Lakers corrected their mistake. I'm concentrating on Caron, since there is a chance he'll be a Rocket.
Re: SF76 Deadline Thread Postby Westbrook36 on Thu Feb 11, 2010 8:26 pm Chris Webber on TNT said that Kevin McHale told him there is a big trade brewing with the Cavs that could happen soon. Wonder if it is the Sixers. SF would probably know.
As a Cavs fan I would love it to be Iggy coming to Cleveland but I'm thinking its the Jamison trade I have been hearing about. Couple of reliable guys with some knowledge of the talks on a cavs message board have said a likely deal at this point is a three way between the Wiz, Houston and Cavs with the main pieces being moved as Z+Caron to Houston, Jamison to Cleveland and T-Mac to Wiz with some fillers likely being passed around. But this being the trade McHale/Webber are talking about is purely speculation on my part.
