Parker is not a closer man, and has nothing to do with this discussion, this is about closers and Parker is not. He is a great offensive player, on a great team, that has the benefit of having 2 of the best closers in the league, both inside (duncan) and out (ginobili). He had a great performance in the finals and thus he had a finals MVP. Finals MVP have nothing to do with closing games, it is about overall performance. Cavs series, game one, closed by Ginobili from the FT line. Game 2, closed by ginobili with a 3 (only shot made in the game by him). Game 3 donñt remember. Game 4, Ginobili scored 7 of the last 10 points.
Its not that we lack a closer. We have players like Von Wafer and Scola(in the post) that can make something happen if you get them the ball. The problem is that our WORST shooters are the ones taking the shots again and again in the closing minutes. Clearly they need to move the ball but instead they take it upon themselves to lose the game as catastrophically as possible.
Not really! I think a closer not only needs to make big shots, but need tough mentality and great leadership. Actually, I think the spurs missed manu's leadership more than his talent in this playoffs. Manu is a born leader. He can make role players trust him, and more importantly, trust themselves!
He is a clutch shooter, Ginobili, Kobe, Lebron, are closers. Players that can create a play by their own and succeed are closers. I didn´t see Horry closing out games, but i do think he is very clutch. Being closer and being clutch are different things. I followed the Spurs a lot as i said earlier, and Parker has evolved a lot, he was very unclutch in the beginning, he would alwas be subbed ffor the last five mins because he was not to be trusted. lately he has been better, and very clutch sometimes when given a shot (usually midrange 20-25 feet), but he still is not a closer. Maybe he will be in time, but for now he still isnt. you posted an youtube from Parker, look at this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCbcdPmc4Bg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu8Q8PM9BdU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IChapdX2KC8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q387OtTabC0&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CJSbhnaKf4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6YyoURjn8Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq8y9P5yLNQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niUif9W7F-Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPegMCO4za0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hY5hus3zZCU&feature=fvst http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_djDUcCWzQ I am tired of youtubing... i think you got my point. right?
Robert Horry is MR CLOSER <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHkArsWPZbg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHkArsWPZbg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CqZQ7fYavT4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CqZQ7fYavT4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
No. He is not that type of closer that we are talking about! He can make big shots, so can Novak! You think Novak is the closer that the rockets need right now?! As I have said, the closer that rocket need is the one who has tough mentality, great leadership, and can make plays during the crunch time!
This is the #1 fault on this team, no closer or playmaker you can trust down the stretch. They have to rely on a closer by committee or go through whoever is open and has the best shot at the moment. Unfortunately, Artest thinks he's a closer and tries to fill that role, which he more than often fails at. Yao is a go-to option but he's just being neutralized and taken out whenever Portland wants y the fornting defense and the Rockets inability to get him the ball. Look at the other playoff teams, they all have a playmaking wing or point guard that they can rely on down the stretch: Kobe, Deron Williams, CP3, Billups/Melo, Dirk, Parker, Lebron, Joe Johnson, Gordon/Rose, Pierce/Rondo, Iquodala, Hedo/Rashard, Roy, Hamilton. This team has no clear player they can go to so they have to rely on ball movement and smart decisions to make the right play at crucial junctures of the game.
Why not?! Without Novak's big shot, we wouldn't have the 22 winning streak! Of course, so far, Horry has made more big shots, but Novak is still young. You never know what would happen in future!
Yeah, he only sucks during the regular season, right? Trade him to the Lakers or Spurs and he will make some noise in the playoffs. LOL
Robert Horry has never failed to make it out of the first round of the playoffs for 15 years. Robert Horry has 7 championships on 3 different teams. Robert Horry has more 3 pointers in the playoffs than Michael Jordan. Robert Horry has played more playoff games than Kareem Abdul Jabbar. did somebody from Utah hack into your account dude? what is going on? I know the loss sucks but it should have caused this much damage .
So, you mean Horry is better than Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul Jabbar?! I think Horry has a great career, but he is not a closer that we are talking about in this thread. p.s. It's too late! I need to go to bed. Nice to talk to you!
We all know Horry is not a closer, even he closed out many games, but being a closer is very different to closing out games. Being the closer means that a player, with his team up by 5 and 4 mins left, will have the ball in his hands for all of the posessions, handle for 15 seconds and either Score or assist a teammate, or get fouled. While closing a game is hitting a big shot with the clock winding down, let´s say, the last minute of the game, you don´t have to create, you don´t have to assist, just make THAT shot, and you closed the game, usually what we called a clutch shooter. I think Horry is a clutch shooter, Parker is none of those but has become better at clutch shooting, and Ginobili is a closer. The best closer in the game right now is Paul Pierce in my view, or Kobe Bryant, Pierce has surprised me lately. (his last 2 PO)
thats who we need, guy is all heart, f the haters. averaging 29 per game last playoff season with a eff'd up shoulder and knowing his team had nothing but him is called HEART. yeah its his fault that the refs were against us in the mavs series and finely got a bull**** out of bounce call. lmfao if you're blaming a 40pt loss on one player, ure a dumbass yeah its fault that no1 could get a rebound at the end of Game 7 against the j*zz, while yao was wacking off under the basket. KEEP HATING. We need tmac. if you switch out Tmac for Artest, we'd be done with this series. GG
