http://thehoop.blogspot.com/2010/04/big-sofo-plot-thickens.html Wednesday, April 7, 2010 Big Sofo.. the plot thickens.. No pun intended. Big Sofo's option seem to be getting more every day. According to sport24.gr, Sofoklis Schortsanitis will have even more options this summer when his contract ends. Apart from the Clippers that are already in contact with the Greek center there is also talk of the Houston Rockets who are interested in signing him. The Clippers selected Schortsanitis in the NBA Draft of 2003 at number 34 and they still obtain his NBA rights to this day. As Schortsanitis becomes a free agent in the summer, an NBA team will not need to pay a buy-out clause in order to sign him. Of course there is always the possibility of Olympiacos coming back with a new contract but the article says that it will probably happen after the end of the play-offs. The troubled player seems to have left all of his bad habbits in the past and he appears to be in very good shape focusing on his career. Much will depend on Olympiacos' attempt at a possible 2nd Euroleague title and also his and the team's performance in the play-offs trying to win the Greek League. The possibility of Schortsanitis signing for another european team or for rival Panathinaikos seems to be a distant one.. Click here to return to the homepage.
Since the Clippers have his rights and want him, wouldn't the Rocket have to trade for his rights just to sign him?
To add more info about this player, here is report from draftexpress: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Sofoklis-Schortsanitis-5266/ It does sounds like he can be a great back up for us
The sourcing here is pretty tenuous, from google translate: Moreover, it appears that Clippers are the only team that seems to be interested in Schortsaniti. And said that the Houston Rockets look to him, even recently skaout who attended the Olympic games with Prokom was essentially turned his eyes to the brutal Center. But the only time to play the "wise" to another NBA team but the Clippers are to be part of an exchange.
Two thing I learned from watching this youtube video. 1. His a big angry black man. 2. Riot police are are needed at European basketball games <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qxmRtW5I4mc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qxmRtW5I4mc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
that's the greek baby shaq, he's the guy who gave team USA fits one summer. I'm trying to remember his playing style...i'd say he's like Big baby, but uses his body like shaq.
He was terrible in the 2008 Olympics and got destroyed by the US, by Scola, by Spain - by pretty much everybody. Horribly out of shape and inept.
Hes a very big dude. Watched a highlight from a game on youtube and he seems pretty bad. But he sure is a bruiser.
Some highlights from youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EX85CfEr5Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f_x9obHeOg From what I saw, he basically plays like Shaq.(Use to brute strength to get post position) He does run the court pretty well.
Well if Andersen was some fancy Euroleague player and this guys THAT much better lets give him a shot.
Big body, but no hops. He can't jump very high and his wingspan is doesn't seem to be very big. Just say no. He can't keep up with the speed of Brooks and Co. We already have Chuck, but at least Chuck can run. Can he shoot? or even dunk?
