Thank you!! Phew! We dodged another one. Deron Williams is definitely not the answer.

Don't forget Clutch's article about how much the Rockets once coveted Deron Williams. Obviously that was awhile ago and quite a bit has changed since then, but it's not exactly shocking that Morey would go after him at a relatively buy-low opportunity right now.

He's played like an absolute beast in December. Especially the last 3 days.

Not sure that's the case. I think they just want to improve overall.

Morey has always said that you can't be picky about stars. If one comes available, you just have to be ready. We can't upgrade at the 2 or 5, and it's unlikely we will be able to at the 3, so that means we will target a 1 or a 4. Not surprising then that we would ask about DWill or Rondo (if we even have). We've probably asked about Kyrie or Wall as well.

Given Morey's track record with PGs (drafting Rondo while he worked for Boston, drafting Brooks, trading for Lowry and Dragic, signing Lin and Beverley), I've always assumed he can find good production at PG for a cheap/reasonable price. He's already got his post Lin and/or Beverley plan worked out with Canaan and Llull. That plan will only be trumped if a star PG becomes available.

It should be a concern to everyone that Morey would ever consider paying the max to a guy like Williams. Downright scary.

That's why he checked the status of Williams and Rondo. He was this close to getting Paul in the offseason. The front office sees the need to get better at the 1 if the opportunity present itself.

Yeah why would anyone want to pay money for a 20/10 PG...

    Insane.

This all lines with information I heard last week. If you don't think Morey would trade for Deron Williams and Kevin Garnett in a hot second then you don't know anything about Morey. I alluded to this in a couple posts, this being the leverage to get Atlanta to give up pick swaps. But it's more complicated than that. However Morey made the effort.

Just think about this for a moment: Knicks going nowhere, Nets going nowhere. Everybody in the league knows Melo is opting out. I'm not going to spell out the rest. But everybody in the league knows Melo is leaving the Knicks. Put it together.

No way, he is a good PG but not someone you want to lock up future cap space with. I am kinda sad that the Mavs didn't get him over the summer since he would have cripple them for years to come with that contract.

No. Not saying that. Not yet anyways. But if the Knicks sit there and do nothing until the end of the season Melo and CAA is going to have total leverage with the Knicks. They are going to be able to basically force the Knicks to trade him to where he wants to go.

    Put it together.

Rather keep Asik & Lin than trade for Deron.

So does Tony Parker. Yet he makes nowhere near the max. That's why the Spurs win a lot of regular season and playoff games.

Confused by this as well. Knicks and Nets going nowhere. Melo leaving the Knicks.

Rockets can't sign Melo in FA unless he takes a big paycut....so there isn't much leverage there. The only the leverage the rockets would have is if Melo said he's leaving, and listed the Rockets as an acceptable destination...if NY wanted to get something in return in a trade.

Don't see how what the Nets do impacts the Knicks.
