after d.will turned the ball over off a Patterson steal/game winning shot.

in his interview today on NBA TV he "shrugged his shoulders" and said "it's not the first time I've turned the ball over to lose a game and probably won't be my last" WTF !? you can't win with a guy like that on your team. I mean mistakes happen I understand but to say that and shrug your shoulders is not ok, especially on a $20mill a year superstar contract.

and to think this was MOREY's 3rd STAR he was going to get with that contract $20mill a year until 2017, with only vet min players around him. for 3 more years. We dogged a bullet by NETS telling MOREY no.

It's magical thinking that somehow he will get healthy as soon as he arrives in Houston.

Ahhh tastes like great 3 in 1 coffee. Just add water and stir. Thankfully nearly everyone here is not a GM

Those were just rumors tbh. Deron's ankles are a huge liability, even before he injured them like 90 times in a span of two weeks. I never thought it was plausible Morey would want Deron for Asik & Lin, as that trade had HUGE risk associated with it because of Deron's health + contract.

That being said, there was nothing wrong with what Deron said there. You can gripe on him for driving Jerry Sloan out of Utah and then essentially forcing himself out of Utah later and that entire Utah fiasco actually, but Deron is just keeping it real. Now that doesn't mean he's a good team leader, because he's not, but neither is Dwight or Harden, and both of them have made bad play at the ends and both of them have had similar lackadaisical stands post-game. (Harden skipping out on the media, complaining about his touches after Game 1 of the Finals when he was with OKC, Dwight in... many instances...)

The thing this team needs more than a 3rd star is actually someone who can be a leader and command respect.

You have a solid point. They did fix Shaq, and extended Grant Hill's career.

    Quite a few assumptions there.

It was reported that Houston talked to Brooklyn and that Deron Williams name came up. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not. Even if it's true we know nothing else other than they talked and Williams name came up. Did Houston even make and offer? Who brought up Williams name? Without knowing that it's a pretty big jump to think that the Nets saved Morey from himself?

What if we asked if Williams was available and the Nets said no, end of conversation? What if it was the Nets that brought up Williams name? How do you know that Morey was willing to make a particular trade rather than just gauging the asking price for D-Will?

I'm sure the Rockets or any other NBA team does their due diligence and checks around to find the asking price for a lot of players. That's just smart business but it certainly doesn't mean that Morey was hellbent on acquiring Williams and that the Nets saved him from himself. For all we know the conversations never got around to players or Morey was only interested if it was a sweetheart deal for us. Morey doesn't have a track record of overpaying in trades so why do you assume that he would start now?

Also why would we only have to surround him with vet players for 3 years? Was Ray Allen or Shane Battier minimum salary players? Nope. Even teams over the cap get exceptions and the trade rules allow you to aggregate salaries in trades and bring back more salary than you send out.

We still might. It's just that Deron is not in that category at this point of his career. That Deron doesn't fit the need doesn't mean there isn't a need.

If only it were the Deron Williams of 4-5 years ago.

The player that was every bit as good as CP3 and routinely outplayed him in head-to-head matchups (sound familiar? Dwight vs. Yao).

But, yeah, assuming there was any legitimate interest on our part, sounds like we dodged a major bullet.

I kinda doubt we were going to trade for Dwill to keep him unless we were getting KG too. DWill could be flipped to Sacramento for picks and young assets. That's the sort of deal that would make a lot of sense in our pursuit of Love.

Morey would be dumb to trade Asik and Lin for D Will. Dude is semi washed up.

Brian Geltzeiler {of HoopsCritic} just said to "keep an eye on this".

I'll write more after the Nets are out of the playoffs but there is a falling out between Billy King and Williams. Deron wants out. Billy is happy to accommodate him. We know Daryl called last year at the deadline. When Brooklyn was in their big Dwight Howard push, who did they want to pair Dwight with? Deron Williams. The price would be similar now to what it was then--Lin and Asik. ... Keep an eye on that. If Deron Williams is made available, and from what I'm told, he will be made available, I think Daryl Morey will be all over that.

Deron Williams has not been the Deron Williams of old this year, but I still feel that he is a very very good starting point guard. Him as our starter and Bev coming off the bench would be awesome in my opinion.

Stay the hell away from Deron Williams. Dude is an injury prone diva who's past his prime. No thanks!
