Probably...but considering his character it isn't hard for me to envision money making the call for Dampier. He did just watch $13M go poof.

Chuck's lack of offensive has hurt us for years. Dampier is an upgrade either way

I actually like Dampier. He is a good defender and he is a solid 7 footer. As we know, you can't teach height.

But why sign him for 2 years? I'd give him a one year deal and see what happens.

Btw, he'd be earning more than McGrady :D

Do not like Dampier!! Dallas all the way through him!!
I think we should be looking toward a younger player, who might develop and stick with the team.
He would become the true back up when Yao is 100% and Miller has retired. :p

This is a plus, having arguably the two best backups in the past 10 years playing alongside Yao... Dampier will go to Miami tho...

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but last night at the house of blues where the rockets released their marketing campaign they had cardboard cutouts of all the rockets players all over the room. As I left I noticed 3 player cutouts in the back corner hidden away. The players were jefferies, hill, and budinger. Possibly a trade on the horrizon?

That would be a waste of money.

If the rockets did actually make an offer to Dampier, then they are either going to bring Yao along much slower than we originally thought or their getting ready to make a trade involving Jordan Hill and or Chuck Hayes.

I can see WHY we would want Erica. I really can. He could be both an experience 'big man' and a potential trade tool for Carmelo.

That said, as a player, Shaq dubbed that boy Erica for a reason and we've seen him enough in seasonal that I am shocked anyone in our front office would want him at all. He's not soft but far from quality we usually have gotten under Morey's reign as GM.

I would rather cut my penis off than have any of Dallas's trash, especially Dampier. Go, I hate him soooo much.

Okay, we all know this comment is probably going to be examined more than the Zappruder film on this site, so I'll fire the opening salvo...

Were the cutouts just in the corner of the room, or were they specifically hidden away? Was it obvious that they were trying to be hidden?

Bud, Hill and Jeffries make the most sense in a trade and if the Rox do sign Dampier then he would take Hill's spot while I imagine the player we acquire would be a wing which would take Bud's spot and JJ is simply a trade filler.

I would rather see Miller or Hill or Chuck or even Patterson on the court instead of Erica.

Not happening, he'll either sign with MIA for the chance to get a ring and an easy ride, or he will sign with MEM for the money. Morey's just keeping busy...

It seemed obvious to me they were in the back corner near the exit with a curtain half way over them. I know it might be nothing but I just thought it was interesting especially since the next day we're trying to get dampier. And I would have thought they would showcase the buddinger cutout.

I don't think he will be a Rocket but with us pursuing him speaks volumes. I don't see us needing him unless there is a trade in the works. Hayes would be fine as a 3rd string center. We won 42 games with him starting last season and how often do 3rd string guys play? Not much unless Yao goes down again. They have also came out and said that Hill will be a center. That gives us 4 centers with the possibility of there being 5 with Hayes even though he is technically a PF.

With that said, there has to be a trade coming that will involve Hill and/or Hayes. It makes me wonder if the Nuggets have told Morey that if they include Hill to a trade, possibly already discussed privately between the Rockets and Nuggets, then they would deal Carmelo to us. Maybe I am being to optimistic but on the other hand, it could just be a move that helps us against the Lakers. I could see Miller playing a few minutes at the PF spot behind Scola to combat the size of Gasol and Bynum with Dampier backing up Yao.

It's just insurance, hedging, diversifying.. whatever you want to call it.
