I don't understand what all the fuss against Damp is about. If you are trult a fan and actually watched Rockets games the last 2 years you can plainly see that he fits a glaring NEED.

How did we lose game 7 against the Lakers 2 years ago...SIZE...they finally figured out that we were midgets on the court and just started to pound us to a LOSS...look at last year...we were playing CHUCK at the 5 spot every night...how do we plan to compete and win playoff games with chuck holding true 5's...it just aint gonna happen...look at the CELTICS and LAKERS finals last year...when the CELTICS lost their SIZE (Perkins) they essentially lost the championship.

Now fast forward to this season...Yao essentially is still "kinda" hurt and only playing 24min (MAX) a game, plus Miller (35 yo) is already hurt (ankle). I saw HILL play last year and have watched him through summer league...HE IS NOT A 5 and based on his skill set should never be a 5 for him or the Rockets to be successful. He is an athletic 4 that can create matchup problems if he plays the 4 with a true 5.

Listen to what RICK & MOREY said in their media day videos about “keeping a TRUE 5 on the floor at all times”…they know the team NEEDS Damp NOW. Not only does he keep SIZE on the floor but it keeps players playing their natural positions.

Do I think he is stalling away from 2-a-days and additional training...maybe...but he won't be here for offensive production. I'm not saying he makes us a contender but he does make us better and fills a need. Who else could immediately fill in and do that at the 2 min price tag that we're offering...Hell we gave Miller 15 mil...is he that much better than Damp? not that damn much.

Damp is another "pitbull" that this team needs. The Rockets have built the reputation as a tough hard nosed team that works hard on both ends of the floor. One thing that people can't say about Damp is that he is weak and gets pushed around.

I like Damps. He is big and nasty. Thats what we need. We have small or scrawny or fragile. We need a little big and nasty in our lineup somewhere.

seriously what did eric dampier do prior to his last year in dallas? seriously? absolutely nothing!!!! yeah he can rebound a tad bit, and thats about it.dude is a human dunked on punching bag at best. people just look at his size and people automatically think he can contribute. the heat didnt sign this guy for a valid reason.

This makes perfect since Damp would fit in the tough identity that the Rox have.Plus he is a 5 along with miller that can run the floor with the guards when Yao is out of the game. Not to mention on occasion you can play miller and damp at the same time. Our rebounding will be better and defense will be suffocating. 24 minutes willbe sufficient for yao

Eric Dampier averaged 5 points and 6 rebounds in the play-offs this year as a starter, and you guys actually think this guy can contribute?

Yep. Even as uninvolved as he was in the offense his per 48 were decent. Could be very good for some situations. Also we aren't paying him the $13.5M he made last year, just 2 years 4m.

yes because his contribution will not be statistical so much as it will be presence and alignment for our roster. no one is looking for him to be a 15pts/10rbs guy.

MIA didnt pick up the guy because they would have had to cut on of their 5 C's that are already under contract. Not because he wasnt needed. Plus i'm sure they didnt want to piss off any of the Superfriends who personally recruited other players...Haslem, Z, etc.

If you dont see how he could help the team you either havent played basketball, dont really understand what you see when you watch a basketball game, nor do you know how to fix basketball related problems. Getting Damp is a no brainer.

That means jack when Haywood is coming in and taking most of the playing time. Dampier's stats dont pop out because he's been a starter who doesnt play starter's minutes, so his 7 or 8 boards a game seem low, but are actually good for 24 mins of play or so.

I can't believe this is still being discussed. 2 true centers on this team, one is limited, another isn't a 40 mpg player anymore and we want to question picking up Dampier

He's not waiting it out because he's lazy and wants to take more time off.....he just doesnt have a suitor who's a clear contender. Houston should be a clear one, but there's obviously doubt with Yao's condition. He wants a good shot at a ring and Portland, Milwaukee, and Toronto are pretty much in the same spot, which is not contender status. More than likely he's trying to appeal to a more clear contender before choosing Houston....or he'll probably go with Portland if he doubts Houston's ability to stay healthy.

I would like to see Dampier come. He is easily still a 10/10 player given enough minutes.

What I'd like to know is, who the hell does Erick Dampier think he is? He's treating his signing as a back-up as if it were his "time to shine." Third best center in the WNBA or not, it's annoying.

your adamancy to listen to yourself and be wrong is clouding your reason for basketball sense. There is no one else currently on the market that can fill the need of a true backup 5.

he's not the savior but he is a necessary evil/piece.

Stating the obvious: this waiting game is becoming VERY frustrating.

One way or the other, I just want to know.

Of course, $4M over 2 years for what Damp brings to the table might be too good to be true. Ironic, that one of the league's poster-childs for obscenely overpaid centers over the past few years is now all of a sudden becoming one of the best value deals available.

Am I really checking CF multiple times a day to see if we signed Erick Dampier? Is that what life has come to?
