Dampier might be hurting for money. It's well known that Yao's teammates usually get endorsements in China.

The guy hasn't been off waivers for more than 48 hours. And you're mad at him for not making a major life decision that affects his daily existence for at least the next two years? Chill out, man!

Possibly, although I think there would have been at least one story out there about that. I would think Dampier realized early that he was grossly overpaid, that his final year would never be picked up, and that he should therefore save some of that money for the future. But who knows?

He could always pawn his championship ring. ;)

Yao and Dampier together vs. Bynum and Gasol would be interesting.

I have a question. Why would anyone put that on Clutchfans? Has nothing to do with the Rockets. Bad vibes man, bad vibes. :(

This is one of only a handful of players in the NBA that I could not root for even if he was on the Rockets, just disgusting

Getting Dampier is a good idea. Even if Brooks and Martin play better defensively we still need shotblocking.

I never liked the guy too much for some reason, but...why?

As a player, he seems to provide rebounding and shot-blocking and size, which are all things any team can use.

I'd like to be serious for a minute here folks, honestly the guy would be a very serviceable defensive backup, this coming from someone who absolutely HATES the mavs. On a more serious note my grandmother does have bladder problems.

i think in general a lot of hate towards players stems from how much they were making

i see a guy making 10 million a year giving me like 4 pts, 9 boards and 2 blocks and then see another guy making 10 million give me 18pts, 6 boards, 3 assists and get mad at the first guy.

Dampier was a terrible player for the contract he was given that is no question.

at 2 million dollars though? for what he brings to the table and for what this team needs he would be a good fit. Sure he isnt young but he would be far younger than the last legit backup center we had.

At this point if i was forced to choose betweend damp and fesenko i would choose damp (though fesenko has more potential) because we know what we are getting and he has the experience in the playoffs and going up against the big players in the league. also to damp's (i cant believe i am saying this) credit he never really tried to do anything out of his skill set.

To me, Dampier and Fesenko is a tie. One is a useful veteran who may decline, though his numbers have been really good for a role player at any age, let along a 35-year old, one is a unproven youngster who may become useful.

I think the Rockets went after Dampier first partly because he is unrestricted. When Damp makes a decision, either you have him or you can immediately move on to the next targe. With Fesenko being restricted, if you make him an offer now, the Jazz can tie you up for 7 days, forcing you possibly lose any chance you have at Dampier in the meantime.

I also don't get the "NO WANT DAMP" crow. What did he ever do to deserve this? He never go into off court problems, never played particularly dirty. Was pretty productive on a per-minute basis, his team always won 50+ games over the last half decade. Like you said, just becuase he's not worth $13 mil doens't mean he's worthless.
