^ that line got my attention

didn't know that they want him to play behind Yao. So could that mean Miller plays PF behind Scola?

If we can sign him, the possibilities of our Situational lineups would be ENDLESS!

Even if Dampier were the 4th-string center, he'd still be playing "behind Yao at center".

That article does not state that Dampier has been promised the primary backup C role by any stretch.

I'm sure that Dampier, Miller and Hayes will each get a legitimate opportunity to fight for that primary backup role in training camp.

My first reaction was no, but maybe you can bring Miller off the bench at PF and Dampier off the bench at C.

    Twin towers FTW!

yeah that's what I was thinking too but maybe they could've said they want him to be the main backup to Yao too increasing his likelihood of signing with us.

but wondering one thing. you probably know the answer to this. When does the have to make a decision on the offer?

Whenever. The Rockets don't lose their Biannual Exception next season until they use it. They can offer that money to Dampier pretty much at any time during the season, although the first year's salary would be prorated if Dampier waited until after the start of the regular season to sign.

Well, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope he goes for the money and signs with us.

Why do we need him if we got Brad Miller Jordan Hill and Luis Scola that can all play center?

    It all makes sense!!!!!

Yao = 24 mins, no back to backs

We are offering Dampier the starting Center position. Finally a player that can stay healthy.

Yao your 24 minutes just got reduced to 7.

Brad Miller is kind of iffy, but Hill and Scola are more of Power Fowards than Centers.

Besides Yao, we don't true Center because Miller plays more like a 4 in a 5's body. With Dampier, we could get by if Yao plays short minutes.

I can see a second unit of this when Yao's out and we're playing a team with size like the Lakers or Celtics

    Lowry or Lee
    Martin
    Battier
    Miller
    Dampier

A perfect mix of offense and defense. We could also give Brooks some rest to play with the Lakers or Celtics primaries, who he had a field day against.

What if the Rockets want Dampier to actually START games for the Rockets? It's not a stretch since bringing in Yao at the beginning of games wouldn't do him or the Rockets any favors since he's still getting back into the game. Have Dampier start games alongside Scola for 8 minutes, have them rest and bring in Miller at the 4 and Yao at the 5 against the opposition's 2nd unit.

It might be crazy but with Scola, Martin, and Brooks, scoring won't be missing in our starting lineup.

There is no way in hell I'm supporting this.

I mean hell bring back John Ameachi, at least he knows how to put it in the hole.

I'd also entertain the idea of having Miller and Dampier on the court together to counter Gasol and Bynum or Garnett and O'Neal.

He's the only decent Center on the market, unless you want to give up some assets for someone like Oden or Jason Thompson from Sac-Town.
