Actually PRM he is a Point Guard. He is a big time penetrator who averaged 4 assist per game. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/2001/draft/draftboard/players/11197.html Here are the top PGs selected in this year's draft, Hill is listed: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/2001/draft/draftboard/positions/PG.html
http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/tracker/position?id=2 There's another link that says Hill is a shooting guard. http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/tracker/team?team=Dal Draft Analysis A little guy who scores a lot, Hill has the misfortune of going to a team that has many guaranteed contracts -- and little need for a 6-2 shooting guard. But, if Howard Eisley moves on and Hill has a good camp, who knows. But that was it on a quiet night. And since when did 4 assists indicate a guy's a PG? The other guard on his team averaged more assists, generally PG's average more assists than SG's.
Actually you can't label him a 2-guard OR Point guard, that's why different sites have him as a pg and sg. His numbers show that he scores like a SG, passes like a PG, and rebounds like a SF. http://www.sportsline.com/u/basketball/college/players/175881.htm His label even sounds like a PG/SG combo <i>2001 NBA Draft Analysis Hill, from a small school in a small conference, needed to impress scouts at the postseason camps ... and he has. Hill has shown the ability to handle the ball, create off the dribble, find his shot and sink it with better than average consistency. He can defend his man and has good hands, often interrupting the opposition's play. A longshot to get drafted and make a team, Hill has been beating the odds to date -- he could continue to do so. </i>
I have seen Hill play in person. EIU used him at the 2 spot, and let me tell you he could score! I think he had 30 points the night I saw him, but he was EIUs only real option on offense and they were playing South East Missouri St. The Ohio Valley isn't real strong. He is small. He is skinny, but very quick. I don't know if he can play the 2 in the NBA, and I don't know if he can play the point, he is kind of the type of guy that moves without the ball well and is better being fed the ball. Does anyone remember Shawn Respert from Mich. St.? He was a 6-2 2 man with the same attributes, but I think Hill is a bit better. Maybe sort of a Kerry Kittles but 3 inches shorter and a better shooter. My opinion is that he could be a guy to keep on the roster because he could play limited minutes at the 1 or 2. He may have trouble with the point though. I also think that it is possible that he could be a nice surprise because he kind of just finds a way to score (I say that because other teams have focussed so much on trying to stop him because EIU had nobody else and he still was a great scorer). I have a friend or two that have seen more of him in person and will ask them what they think.
If he is a 2-guard who passes like a PG (he had a bunch of 4 to 7 assist games and even a 12 assist game) then I hope the Rockets keep him. He can be a spark plug off the bench, another Dee Brown type player. I'm impressed, hopefully the Rockets will try him out a bit, and not just immediately cut him as excess baggage.
Hill is NOT in for cap purposes. He counts as nothing on the cap till signed, and the same in trades. His numbers indicate a poor man's Francis type player - hybrid guard, racks up all 3 big categories, and explosive to the hoop and with his shot. So: 1.) Rudy is trying to pull a Cat part II. 2.) Rudy is using him as "insurance" and a bargaining tool. "We don't need Moochie that much. We won't pay him 4 mill a year when we can pay Hill the minimum and get serviceable minutes" Given that we have 2-3 days to trade him in a package, rarely does a straight deal for the rights to a 2nd round pick happen so far after draft night, I'm guessing he's our new backup 1/2.
This is the best I could find The scariest numbers are... 29.4 FG% 20.0 3pt% (4 of 20 from 3 point range)
Anyone know if he's played any summer league and how he's done? Does the renouncing of Colson indicate Hill is a better player, or will Colson be re-signed at a later date?
Hill did lead the nation in scoring, and unlike Colson, can back up at point and shooting guard. The only logical reason to keep Colson is to make Mobley happy, since he was his "find", much in the same way that Moochie was Francis' "find". Of course you need guys for practice, but realistically you could pick out a number of guards that are better for the job than Colson. I'd rather not have an undersized pg be our 4th guard on the roster, which is why I wanted to pick up a Darren Kelly type for cheap. On a side note, can the capologists tell me if this trade works now that Rice is on the team ; Williams, Collier and 3 million in cash considerations for White and Nesby. KT and Collier are interchangeable in that trade if the cap requires it, with Etan Thomas being the throw in place of Nesby if we included Thomas.
Hill's Summer League stats don't look so good. <table border=3> <tr><td>name</td><td>g-gs</td><td>min</td><td>fg</td><td>3pt</td><td>ft</td><td>off</td><td>def</td><td>tot</td><td>ass</td><td>pf-dq</td><td>stl</td><td>to</td><td>blk</td><td>pts</td><td>avg</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Hill</td><td>3-0</td><td>38</td><td>.250</td><td>.000</td><td>.500</td><td>4</td><td>3</td><td>7</td><td>3</td><td>2-0</td><td>2</td><td>1</td><td>1</td><td>11</td><td>3.7</td> </tr> </table>
