The Rockets are going to suck this coming year, especially if we go into the season with Hayes or Dorsey as our starting center. Actually, if we are really as bad as we can be, we could wind up with a #1 to #4 pick next year, giving us a solid to franchise player with cap space to acquire another solid to franchise level player. Then, if Morey is shrewd with trades, we can in a year go from Boston Bottom to Boston Beast, only in red. The problem for me is that I have no confidence in Morey's ability to build a team considering his fixation on moneyball.
You can have as little confidence as you like, but there is no reason to doubt his approach at this point other being one of those people who just hates statistical analysis (despite it being proven effective repeatedly.) He's reworked a roster that had very little in terms of youth, talent, and assets and has provided it with talent, youth and assets. I don't see how he can be criticized whatsoever for what he's done up to this point. The only argument against him could be that he should have tried to trade Yao, but that is a ridiculous argument to make because he never would have been able to move Yao whether he wanted to or not.
To beat a dead horse ... Rudy Gay. That trade robbed us of an inexpensive, athletic T-Mc replacement and exchanged it for a very likable, very smart, very mediocre player with a long contract. We won't be able to trade Shane until his contract becomes an expiring.
Yes, he's Robert horry style player. Great role player. But Right now Rockets already had many great role player. Rockets need an all star since both Tmac and Yao went down. They need to get Ron back or a similar quality player. Don't overpay Ariza.
Laker fan here. On the Mason and Ireland show (710 ESPN in L.A), it was reported that Ariza is meeting with an official from the Rockets in Las Vegas today.

"Your general manager (is) meeting with Trevor (Thursday)," Lee said. "Trevor and (head coach) Rick (Adelman) spoke by phone (Wednesday). "This is a five-year commitment. It's important for Trevor to go to a place where he his wanted and can contribute." According to Lee, Houston would be a perfect fit. "The Rockets have liked Trevor for a long time," Lee said. "They covet what he can do." Lee said he has already received a number of offers, most of them are the mid-level exception. "But two of three of those offers are more than that," Lee said. Lee said Ariza is getting more and more interest every day because, until recently, most teams believed the Los Angeles Lakers were not going to let him go. A five-year veteran, Ariza averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.7 steals last season for the Lakers.
Wafer is a knucklehead and that's why he can't find a home. It's a team and we don't need his ego here.
