http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4518524 ============================== The Houston Rockets will have four players competing for their final open roster spot when they complete the signing of swingman Romel Beck, which is scheduled to happen Wednesday. Sources close to the situation say Beck has been lined up to fill the vacancy in Houston's training camp created when the Rockets elected not to go through with their intended signing of Rashad McCants. McCants is carrying an abdominal injury that limits his immediate availability, so Houston has opted to sign Beck -- who played for San Antonio's summer-league team -- to a non-guaranteed deal. The Rockets are one of the dwindling number of teams prepared to field a full 15-man roster this season and are expected to choose between leading contender Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Beck and summer-league guards Will Conroy and Garrett Temple for that last spot. Yet Rockets general manager Daryl Morey made it clear in a statement Tuesday that signing McCants when the former North Carolina star is healthy is still in his thoughts. "Unfortunately Rashad is still recovering from an abdominal injury that would have made it very difficult for him to earn a spot on our roster," Morey said. "We were looking forward to seeing him compete with the mix of guards we have in camp, but he simply would not have been completely healthy. We are open to taking another look at him down the line when his condition improves." Although he's a proven NBA scorer, McCants has been looking for work all summer after the Minnesota Timberwolves traded him to Sacramento in February and the Kings passed on re-signing him. The Rockets need scorers with Yao Ming out for the season and Tracy McGrady still sidelined after knee surgery and were willing to audition McCants -- just as they gambled on Von Wafer last season -- in spite of concerns about McCants' willingness to play a team game and cope with limited playing time. Beck faced similar criticisms during the summer while playing for Mexico's national team and was ultimately removed from the team during the FIBA Americas Championship.
dis guy is da kobe-killa!!! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pj28VvPsjHk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Pj28VvPsjHk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
LMAO @ Bill Walton talking about the purchasing power of the 44 million Latino's in the US... man I miss the guy.
YEAH, ROMEL BECK. This is the guy that will replace Von Wafer. In fact, he's even BETTER! He will easily be our Wafer this season. YEAH.
Morey continues his strategy of signing low risk, high ceiling prospects with those final roster spots. From Gerald Green to Von Wafer to James White to Romel Beck to Rashad McCants... all of these guys have had attitude problems or issues that signal they will forever be journeyman despite their athleticism and talent. But the Rockets locker room is so harmonious all this becomes insignificant once they join the team... and their talent is put on the front stage. I also like Morey's approach of only signing one of them at a time so they take on the attitude of their environment... while always having a low risk, high ceiling prospect on the team plucked out of Free Agency.

So now instead of one fat greek guy with a Greece flag we'll have hundreds of mexicans with Mexico flags.
i dont know about this one, the guy has talent, but is selfish and a head case.....he fights with opponents and freezes out his own teammates..
Doubt it....Mexicans in Mexico may know who Beck is, but most them here probably don't. The fact that his last name is Beck doesn't help either.
still, the last thing we need is a guy with negative swag around the team, even if he's just a practice body or whatver he can still cause problems..
Youre right, but I think if he does, he will be kicked out immediately. I bet if he causes problems, itll be after he made the team, not when he is trying too.
