They could get to #8 if one of Brooklyn, Philly or Chicago wins their play in games - one of those teams will be the 2nd East play in team.

    Most likely Chicago.

Philly would be insane to not tank. Their pick is only top 6 protected. And they're currently tied with Brooklyn for the 6th worst record.

Yeah, its going to be funny watching all these teams try to out tank each other. If Phoenix didn't have such a tough schedule, I would say there would be no way for them to not be moving up in the standings.

I will also confess as a Rockets fan that I really need Philly to do the right thing and tank. If their pick falls out of the top 6, it's conveyed to OKC.

Agreed, that would be a horrible thing. Has Morey ever engineered a successful tank? Maxey needs to have a mysterious injury to insure their tankage.

you just stated some very good reasons as to why the rockets shouldn't trade for KD.

he's going to blow a tire sometime very soon, unfortunately.

getting to #8 would be such insane work. Would not only just come with such good odds at top 4 but also land in that sweet spot of solid talent in the mid lottery.

simply wishful thinking tho. not sure chicago can win a play-in but its not impossible. SA and Por could pass phx tho as they are both trying to win games.

If the Rockets have chased KDs failure essentially for half a decade now with two different teams (BKN/PHX), i find it interesting they would suddenly be bullish on a KD led team.

Of course they would ..... but someone has to be the 2nd play in team, it's likely Chicago.

The 2nd play in team winning their way into the playoffs moves that PHX pick down one spot regardless of record.... #8 is about as good as we can hope for. 6 is mathematically possible but very unlikely.

One game in the loss column separates #11 PHX & #9 San Antonio with Chicago the next and currently the 2nd play in spot ..... 3 games in the loss column worse than SA. Win the play in and move to 16th ....

In this situation the loss column is less important than the win column. So, the Spurs need 3 more wins to match the Suns at 29 wins, and the Suns will probably beat the Mavs tomorrow.
Looking at Chicago's schedule, I can see them winning enough games to catch the Suns, but I'm not sure about the Spurs. I'd say the pick will probably be 9 or 10, but it could go as high as 8.

Morey has bad karma I can see that pick going to OKC regardless if they tank

The point of that post was that Chicago's win total is irrelevant IF they win their way into the playoffs thru the play in. (possible, not probable)

Dallas is still trying to win and stay in the play in .... So is SA.

PHX has the toughest schedule among them.

    I agree, it's probably 9-10 .... but potentially 8.

Why does it matter if they missed the cover?
