I'm still somewhat intrigued by him, but he's been a disappointment after his exciting rookie year. I'm not going to cry over him being waived. I hope we will get a good 2nd round pick in 2024.

My question though is why waive Doumbouya so soon? Does he suck? Kid's only 20. Since his salary is guaranteed anyway I'd wait till season starts before waiving him just to see if something's there.

Plus maybe some team agrees to take House so maybe no need to waive Doumbouya. He had a good rookie year iirc.

Interesting to see that a 20 year old who was drafted #15 in 2019 will likely not be given a look/opportunity by the Rockets.... Perhaps it's a prearranged agreement to release him, in exchange for something else - but it's just weird.

Why would someone pay 3.9 million dollars for the potential last pick in the NBA draft? Are 2nd round picks that valuable???????? Yikes, to the new reality......

I normally would think that too, but with the trade, and Woj's tweets yesterday it seems like there's some real concern beyond the normal Kyrie idiocy. I think we all should have a good sense too that the online radicalization is a real thing and there is no rationalizing with alot of people that fall down the Qanon wormhole.

Speaking from experience as I've personally lost the ability to rationalize with my own mom. When it comes to the vaccine, my mom literally thinks it's the mark of the beast, and you won't be able to get raptured before the upcoming apocalypse if you take the vaccine. Sounds nutty but if you fall down this wormhole of online radicalization like it sounds like Kyrie has for some time, there's a good chance you are impossible to reach at least now in this day and age. It'll take years to unwound a good chunk of our population.

I’m sure you can buy a Lin jersey at good will and put the word Doombouya on it

I'm hoping they waive him and sign him to the Vipers, dude has a massive amount of potential but there aren't really any minutes for him to develop on the roster right now

No kidding. There has to be something else in it for the Rockets. I’m sure the plan was to get a pick for that TE before it expires, but as you point out, this has a chance of being the last pick of the draft. Seems they could have done better than that.

Man, you guys really can see 3 years into the future?

What were we thinking about the Rox in 2018?

Fair point, but I think that pick is going to be much more likely to fall in the latter half of the draft than the first half.

it probably just ends up being trade fodder anyway.

we used the harden trade exception…. an asset that could have been used to acquire an actual player

That might have been harder than we think. It would need to be a player that would only have this year remaining on their contract, available for trade by 11/22/21, and be better than the two players we would have to release/move in order to bring them in. With only six weeks left to use it, they might have felt like they had exhausted all other options.

Anthony Lamb, Khyri Thomas played well last year, but we don't need him sadly.

Eric Gordon and Danuel House are still here.

Man, the 2019 Draft really was a total dumpster fire.

Dude is 20 and was nearly a lottery pick, and here we are: a rebuilding team that wants nothing to do with him. Life happens quickly in this league.
