He can play pick and pop in the half court set. That is something that translates well into the playoffs. Especially if he works out good and Yao comes back. Teams can no longer put Okurs on him and kill us that way. We can just put in Anderson and run the same plays that Yao gets killed on in the halfcourt sets. The pick and pop with Brooks. He can pass on the post to Scola like most Euros making us more dangerous in our set plays for passing from the post from both sides with Scola or Anderson.
The poor rebounding I can live with - you don't have to be a great rebounding team to win. And we have good rebounders around him. The Defense is an issue though. I heard he gets schooled by the good Euro post up players, imagine what Pau Gasol is going to do to this guy.
well he is going to be our YAO for the next season. I was never suggesting he'll be anything good as gasol...but obviously he is much much worse than gasol...even marc
So we're committing 3 million to him? I'm curious how the Rockets plan on getting back under the luxury tax or making their bid for a free agent next year.
a nice pickup. Running and gunning is a nice style of play and Adelman seems to be building around that for his fast team. I think Yao is out for the season and McGrady will be back earlier than expected. We could end up between 5-8th in the west. I dont expect us to pass the first round though. After that i think its going to be a big mystery. Do we resign McGrady or let him expire? does he get traded before the deadline? Exciting season even if the championship isnt in our reach.
Morey's specialty is getting undervalued players at below market price. He also does a great job of finding players that fit our system and complements the players we already have. That being said, I have no doubt that he will fit in OFFENSIVELY. The key is how well he will defend. Fortunately, and by no mere coincedence, Anderson's weakness happens to be the Rockets' strength. DEFENSE. I believe we have a strong enough defensive team to be able to hide Anderson's weaknesses. On the offensive end, Anderson will play the same role Brad Miller played in Sac-Town under coach RA. Anderson appears to have equal or even better range then Miller. Expect Anderson to play the high post and be able to facilitate the offence from there. Pick and pop options are also available. On the defensive end, if he is intellegent enough to be able to follow the game plan and make his deffensive rotations, I think he will be fine. I don't believe he is quick enough latterally to effectively defend the pick and roll, but if he can anticipate what the defense is doing, he will be able to funnel the ball to where help is coming from. These are just observations from youtube. I have yet to see him play in any games.
we don't know if this dude can score like he did in europope against nba defense. we do know he can't alley-oops even if we had a chris paul.
Wait until mid-season to trade Cook to the Grizzlies when half his wages have been paid along with 3M so they make a near $2M cash profit. That's $3.5M off Houston's books.
I must say I have high hopes for this guy, I read every entry in this thread and I must say to all the doubters out there that if he makes the roster you will learn that Morey knows what he's doing. You will become a believer! In Morey we trust!
I only read the 1st page, but it seems like everyones happy like DA is our saviour or something! I assure you, he's not. I sure hope there is more C help on the way....
Seen a lot of David Andersen, will be handy on the offensive end, but this guy will get owned at the defensive end in the NBA, definately not a starting centre in the NBA, would be a handy back-up though.
lol. Page 5 was the last page when I typed up my analysis. By the time I finished and submited my post I was already 2.5 pages behind.
The Rockets are definately going to be a run and gun team next year. Our game has to be based on speed and shooting. As for our big-men: Dorsey: powerful rebounder Chuck: unyeilding defender Landry:good post offense Luis: Good all-rounder We needed a shooter, and we got one. He can provide great shooting in ourr system, and now we have someone who can atleast give some of the other bigmen in the league a fight. Against the lakers, sheer size and power wore us down in the end. Andersen will provide a challenge. Overall, great fit for a rebuilding run and gun team with no one over 6' 9".
I think he is our starting center. If Hayes is our starter we are hurting all year for sure as long he is the starter. I think this guy needs to start if he can play.
Scola is not the quickest or strongest guy on the floor, yet he can perform well in NBA. I am willing to give this guy a try and let RA make something out of him.
