I haven't read the majority of the thread , so forgive me if this has been brought out before. Wasn't Scola known as the best player in Europe not in the NBA? Is Anderson thought to be even one of best centers in Europe? If not, why is there such hype for him on this thread? (other than maybe if Morey does it, he must be a steal.)
Watching Anderson's video, is that a modified version of the Dream Shake I see there? Looks real similar to the one Donnie and Guy V used to teach at UH.
im excited bout anderson coming and have read many comments about him being soft. as physical as the nba game is, i dont understand how you can be soft if you're a professional bball player. do they not like to bang around to get rebounds and loose balls??? or are they soft because they're not physically strong enough to push people around? just saying. i always play hard and get physical when i have to so soft players baffle me.
Man, it's too bad Yao and McGrady are injured. Even though Tracy was never fully healthy, I just never saw him and Ron as a good fit. But if you brought back Yao and McGrady to the current squad, I think it would do some serious damage. PG: Brooks, Lowry SG: McGrady, Taylor SF: Battier, Ariza, Budinger PF: Scola, Landry, Hayes C: Yao, Andersen That would be so solid. Oh well. Andersen seems to have decent game. Considering it wasn't a super quick transition even for a Scola - who was a Euro MVP, it will take this guy some time to adjust, especially to the fact that he will have to play more defense and get more boards, but I think he is a real good fit on the team now, and for if/when Yao gets back.
He looks like a younger, more athletic Brad Miller. I just wish he would rebound more though. I can't wait to see him play in pre-season.
Gotta applaud Leslie again. Dude has dropped some major dime this offseason to help improve the roster. Glad he's no Uncle Drayton.
Let's be realistic people. He was drafted in 2002, therefore he is 29 and has never played a single minute in the NBA. This is no Luis Scola situation. At least we didn't (hopefully....those "future considerations" could hurt) give up much.
He's actually not that bad a rebounder. Rebounding numbers in Europe is generally lower than in the U.S. by the same player. John Hollinger of ESPN states that a big man in Europe typically increases his rebounding per minute numbers by 18% after moving to the NBA. Some, actually experience a higher increase (depending on relative pace of play, rebouding ability of teammates, etc.) For example, Scola only averaged 5.9 rpg in 26.5 minutes during his last Euroleague campaign and he averaged 8.8 in 30.3 minutes during the most recent season. It's a 30% bump in rebounding per minute if you compare these two seasons. Andersen's 4.1 rpg in 21 minutes during this past season is significantly lower than Scola's 5.9 in 26.5 during his last TAU season. However, Andersen rebounded much better when he was with CSKA-- 5.8 in 24+ mpg in 07/08. I am not sure what changed in Spain, but unless there is some fundamental loss in rebounding ability that he will never gain back, it's reasonable to ancticipate that Andersen won't be that bad on the boards.
great pick up! Even though this is technically a trade, the fact that we are using part of the MLE on Andersen, I would consider this more as a free agent signing. That being said I would still expect a trade for a center with NBA experience so we can bring along Andersen as we did Scola. By mid season Andersen should start but I doubt we throw him in there on opening day. Morey had said a free agent by a week or two and a trade most likely for a center, so I think the rest of the MLE goes to signing the rookies and we could still be trading for a center.
I don't understand how NBA is that much better than Euroleague. So called dream teams consistently lose to those with players mostly from Euroleague, and we still think NBA players are way better? Look around NBA and we have as many international stars as American stars. I'd say Anderson would be a good center in NBA as well.
David Andersen??? Who??? wow. If he starts over Dorsey then IDK. This move is puzzling. I hope this wasn't the "trade" Morey was talking about
Is he "The One"?? IDK too much about this guy. Having to rely on someone who hasn't played in the NBA is asking for a lot. Who starts Dorsey or Mr. Andersen
when people like this make comments thats just insane I have to learn to ignore them but since I'm at it oh well. You do realize Dorsey is already on the team right. And you call yourself a Rockets fan. HAhaha
From what I see, Andersen has the ability to take the opposing center away from the basket. This will allow Scola to work his post moves against a four or cause all kinds of match-up problems for the opposing defense. I remember how we struggled against players like Okur. Yao & Deke were hesitant to go out of their low post area and we were burned by good outside shooting. When they did leave, we didn't have anybody to protect the basket. With the signing of Andersen, I look for a big year from Scola. He will get more touches in the low post and will pick up the slack in the rebounding department. I look for him to be a double-double machine.
