its hard as a rockets fan to not get excited about a new body with potential. lets give this guy a chance before we start calling him a flop. i understand theres a hightened sense of "savior" going around. if we have that feeling, we are only setting ourselves up for dissappointment. lets just give the guy a shot and think of it as a low risk bet. ill take those all day.

Except that Anderson will probably cost half as much as Gortat.

If the rookie of the year voting was based on talent, Dwight Howard would have won.

He got beat by Okafor and Gordon in votes.

If it was based on talent alone, Oden should have finished 2nd in the rookie of the year voting. Juan Carlos Navarro, Jamario Moon, Thaddeus Young and Mike Conley got more votes than Greg Oden.

If the ROY was based only talent alone, Griffin wins hands down. I see talent as only 1 factor in the ROY awards and it's not even the most important part.

Health and possessions play the greatest part.

Fans don't need to consider that. We want to see team to win as many games as possible.

Exactly, and as many posters have mentioned, he is a warm-bodied, near 7-footer...

    ...that can shoot!

What's not to be happy about?

I think Gortat has potential to be better than Anderson that what he is now. Gortat is more of a player that's gonna be used as a defensive presence with a mediocre post game.

Anderson is ready to play now (as far as I'm hoping since were not tanking). He is also 29 years old.... Which questions Morey's moves. It's almost safe to say that he is planning for 2010. With Yao coming back and landing a mega free agent. With the possibility that Tracy might sign here for less (Yes I know most here would refuse signing him again) But with Wafer more likely to sign with us now... I just honestly see them splitting minutes down the middle.

    Possible 2010 Line up?

    Yao/ Anderson/ Dorsey
    Bosh/ Scola/ Landry
    Ariza/ Battier/ Budinger
    Tmac/ Wafer/ Taylor
    Brooks/ Lowry

This line would definitely be better than the Lakers current line up in 2010.

I just have a strong feeling that Morey will go hard after Bosh because of Lebron, Wade most likely going somewhere else. Not to mention other top free agents but that would be way to hard to predict.

We just got his rights right? How much will it cost to sign him?

Glad u said rather than me. If I said that, I am always b****ing. Petro, Boone, even mihm are probably better than this guy. Not to mention he's 29, but maybe we will win enough games to not draft roy again.

If we picked up a player who's worse than the guys you wanted, why do you think that would hurt our chances of getting a high lottery pick? We should lose more games, right?

I hope he doesn't have a history with injuries, and that he can have a long basketball career like Mutombo.

    He is already freakin 29.

This is a great pickup. More than likely, all the haters on here calling him a bust and "if he were good, he'd be in the NBA already" and he is too slow or can't play defense----just pie-hole it already. This is going to be great under Adelman. I know that he will thrive under Adelman. Book it. If we can get something out of mac by mid season and possibly get Yao back for the playoffs(u never know).......it gives something to look forward to. I mean, look what we did to the lakers when Yao went down. Have we lost any of those core players besides Artest? NO. I like Ariza and his youth, defense and explosiveness over dribble, dribble-artest

Im not so sure about this guy. When Scola was in the Euroleague, he averaged double-doubles. Anderson can shoot far, but he only averaged 11 pts. and 4 reb as s big man.

If Petro, Boone, and Mihm were obtained, then wouldn't the Rockets fall out of the lottery completely and lose in the first round to the Lakers? Wouldn't those guys get eaten alive just as easily by Gasol, Duncan, and D-Howard in the playoffs?

Win more games and drop out of the lottery entirely. Whopee!

I'm not sure Gortat isn't still on the radar. Not saying it is going to happen, but this dude is definitely a backup. Many will say Gortat is too, and they may be right. But I could see the team going with a makeshift front line the first six weeks, pulling a trade for Gortat mid-December, then trading one of Gortat or Andersen the following Summer if Yao is able to return. But I will assume that they figure Andersen to play from the start as he will help pull defenders out for Brooks and Lowry to attack the basket.

who gives a crap about that. Why are you afraid of success  . You think Euro-league performance is the indicator/ceiling for future performance? Nobody is asking this guy to come in and be Hakeem bro.

I remember this Andersen guy vividly. He had an altercation with Yao in the recent Basketball Olympics which he taunted Yao or something.

Perhaps Lee means that they are better because they'd help us lose more games and as a result help us grab a Brandon Roy-caliber player in the lottery. Morey needs to think more outside the box on this! :D

That was Bogut. It was nothing. Yao just reacted badly to getting touched.
