A big man that can shoot and play down low. I like the move. Looking at the way he popped out in those videos, he reminds me somewhat of Okur.
Easy, Darth Hater, this whole team was never centered around David Andersen in the first place. It's centered around team play, fast-break, motion offense, cut, slash, move the ball, blah blah blah. My point: Andersen coming here is just a help in the offense until our stars come back, he wasn't intended to be the savior of the team. Although having a guy over 6'9"ish is nice and will make a huge difference all by itself as long as he can move. Oh yeah, he eventually may be a "terrific back-up for Yao", that will happen when Yao gets back. Until then, if this guy can cut it, he'll start. Lotto bound? Ridiculous. These are the Rockets. Think about it this way, we were alright before he came, he can't really make us any worse. I agree with DD on this one.
Team oriented ball is great, but at the end of the day, you'll need a couple "goto guys" when the game gets tight. Maybe T-Mac or whoever replaces T-Mac will be that guy.
well he lacks the same fundamental rebounding skills as Yao that allows people to swat the ball after he collects a board. He needs to stick his elbows out when grabbing rebounds, but I guess Euro coaches never taught him that. he doesn't seem to have great timing when jumping for the ball but at least he tries.
In Morey we trust. I like the deal. Not a lot of downside to it. He won't cost a lot, we didn't lose anybody to get him. He wants to be in the NBA. He makes us a little longer, though not necessarily bigger. You can't blame him for the weaker euro-game. Maybe he looks slow in the videos because so much of it is in freakin' slo-mo. The Rockets' staff has been following him for years, and has a good idea of what his game is. There are no Yaos or Howards to be had, so we get what there is. Dunno if he's going to be a Scola, because we haven't seen enough of him -- I just want to see if he has any heart. Everybody who hits the NBA has to figure it out, but if he has Scola's heart, this could be a really good year.
In Morey we trust! I just hope he can matchup at least partially with PFs and centers we had a hard time guarding. We're going to get owned by DHoward and other power centers if yao doesn't come back...
You're right, "goto guys" are important, and Andersen was never intended to be that guy. We need one of our stars back (or both, preferably). Or we can just get another one, which may not be likely this year. Either way, eventually we'll have some "goto guys", and hopefully by the time the playoffs roll around. Yao or T-Mac, please get healthy.
What the hell man! Freaking pessimists on this thread. Can't we just be happy we got a Vet Center under 30 for CASH!!!! He will prob. play for Scola type money(3 mil/per) for the next 3 years. It's not a splash but it's SMART!
Smart, indeed, and he will be able to fulfill the role of backup C if and when Yao gets back. We've needed that for a long time...
This would be a good move considering the circumstances if it wasnt for too much money/didnt cut too much into our MLE. I think the only reason we got him was because Morey thought he would be an Adelman type center in his offense. Since we have no go-to guy, we need to play within the offense and create shots with spacing. This guy is brought in to do none other than give us more spacing on offense and more versatility for more movement in the half-court set. I see Adelman splitting the Center position time with Andersen and Hayes, as well as starting assignments based on matchups.
Not in Euroleague indeed, but 2 times Spanish league MVP, 1 time Spanish supercup MVP, and he was the final MVP for 2004 Olympic. Pretty damn good tho.
this is a nice find...should have had him last year to give yao a breather then we wouldn't be having to rely on him as a starter. but i like him...quick...versatile...not strong but he can move and change it up
