In other words... keep him stashed and play him sparingly.

I don't think his stats are indicative of his ability as a player. I mean seriously, he plays for the 76'sers. our entire roster bar Harden would look like garbage there.

I'm coming around on this trade - We have a surprisingly young team for a title contender, and I hate using the word but it really gives Houston more "flexibility." We now have, outside of Harden & Howard, 5 & 3 rotation level wings & bigs, respectively, 4 of whom are younger than 25!

At the same time, this team has a huge hole at PG and man there were some great opportunities out there today. It's frustrating that we couldn't get IT, RJ, or Knight, but I assume the price was simply too high. This summer will be interesting with KJ & Pat's RFA. I doubt there will be much of a market for Pat, but what if somebody offers him a deal too rich for Houston? We don't currently have a long term replacement on board.

Why wasn't Kostas traded? With KJ, he'll get even less minutes (multiple DNPs), and probably won't be retained for next season anyways.

I'm a fan of this guy. He's a perimeter version of Landry. Just tenacious... Really hope McHale plays him.

K.J. McDaniels! Good athletic young player, good back up for Harden.

I'm not sure people understand what kind of players get poison pulled. Lin was coming off linsanity. Asik was arguably the best center in the NBA. If McDaniel is worth poion pilling, then this would've been a steal of a trade because he'll be doing some special stuff. You should be praying he's worth that much money

    Interesting move by Morey.

This would be a no brainer 3-4 years ago when the Rockets were rebuilding. I am a little surprised that THIS Rockets team went for him, especially with him being a restricted free agent. Tells me that the Rockets really wanted Canaan gone and the Rockets really like McDaniels upside.

Right now McDaniels is an elite team defender. He blocks shots at an elite level and uses his long wing span to disrupt the passing lanes. He is strong and explosive, at times just physically overwhelming his cover. One on one he is good but sometimes is overly aggressive. Offensively he is about what you expect from a 19 year old. He is a poor perimeter shooter with poor shot selection and he turns the ball over too often. He is adequate from the line and a far more dangerous shooter when he squares himself. He also can really run the floor.

I could see him getting some rotation minutes because of his length and size. He also is a hard worker, something Canaan struggled with.

My guess is he ends up a very good role player, similar to Trevor Ariza. So much of his success will depend on his shot developing and cutting down mistakes.

My guess is that someone, possibly even the Sixers or Boston makes an offer Morey doesn't match.

LOL yes Asik was the best center in the NBA averaging 3 points and 4 rebounds a game in 15 mins.

This is the NBA, teams will do as they want. All it takes is one team offers a poison pill type contract and there are teams that will offer that to an barely proven commodity.
