Out of the young teams OKC and Orlando are IMHO above the Rockets..... Minny is probably not doing another Gobert like trade. They would be contenders with him, even Orlando he would uplift to the Top 3 teams in the East. But yeah Houston is the one of the few locations that would want him long term......perhaps.
My gut feeling is that a S/T of Jalen Green plus the 9th and another 1st round pick will be offered to the Nets for Mikel Bridges. Stone won't sell the farm for him. I was pleased that Bridges didn't play like a star for them. His trade value is lower than what Brooklyn expects. I'm not sure that this will be good for Houston. Brooks plus the 9th and one of the other 1st round picks from the Harden trade should be the last offer from the Rockets.
PG has averaged 52.6 games a year since joining the Clips (last 5 seasons). At 34 would you bet that average is going higher or lower on his next contract? If we trade any of our young assets/draft capital it should be for someone who helps us get to the next level and can contribute to a championship run.
I’m convinced that Cleveland will trade Jarret Allen this offseason. Heading into season 4 of Mobley’s development it’s beyond clear that he’s a center. If Mitchell is leaving in free agency, they are gonna need to rebuild around Mobley. Does Adams and the 2024 pick get you Jarret Allen? a 5/4 rotation of Allen/Sengun/Bari would be really freaking good.
So, someone who has a better understanding of the cap explain this to me. Many on here advocate that we should not extend Sengun this summer because, if we don't, we, potentially, will have a max cap slot next summer if we decline FVV's option. Okay, I get that. But...how would it be possible to add a max guy? Serious question. No major FA is coming here on a one to two year deal. Soon, we'll have to address the Green, Bari, and Amen potential extensions. Not to mention we're adding a top 10 pick this summer (unless we trade the pick). That's seven possible extensions over the course of the next 5 years or so. Our roster is already crowded. Doesn't it make way more sense to keep the cap focused on extending our young prospects as needed?
Regardless of what we do this offseason, I want to have two max slots available for 2025 free agency. We have the FFV max slot and I want another. We need to convert Dillon into an expiring for next season and we can do this. For reference, the 25’ FA class is the best in quite some time. 2025 Unrestricted Free Agents: Tatum Brunson Mitchell OG Myles PG13 Markkanen BI Bron Jamal Murray Gobert Kyrie Butler Derrick White Aaron Gordon FVV Caruso Naz Reid Brogdon Randle Middleton Issac Etc….
That was mostly my thinking as well, but Jackson had a very interesting take on LockedOn that got me thinking differently. If we could get PG13 for Dillon, 24’ draft pick, Tate and Landale, it probably puts us top 4 or 5 in the west next year, with two max slots available for 2025 free agency, all while keeping our young core together. Sengun Bari PG13 (25’ FA) Jalen FVV (25’ FA) Amen/Tari/Cam/Adams (25’ FA) It’s highly unlikely PG13 would force his way to Houston, but that would be an exciting 9-man rotation with a great future.
I don’t have the best understanding and just posted a quick rundown of where we would stand after the Sengun and Green extensions over in the Mikal Bridges thread. I think it would technically be possible to sign a max player if we don’t pick up FVV’s third year, but it would put us right up against the cap. Then we would add Jalen and Alpi at a total additional value of around $80-90m. We are over the luxury and into the second apron at around $210m at that point. There might actually be restrictions on our ability to do that. Keeping our own players will be expensive, much less trying to squeeze free agents in there. At some point people need to realize that we are going to need to consolidate a Jabari and Cam into one player because we just won’t have the ability to keep them all.

If the team renounces Jalen and FVV they can have two max slots. They can keep Brooks and the right to match on Sengun, pick up all the rookie options (Jabari, Tari, Cam & Amen) and have $86.44m to use in FA along with the room exception ($8,406,300). With a projected cap of $155,100,000 the 25% max is $38,775,000 in that year, 30% $46,530,000 and 35% $54,285,000 They could always decline FVV and renegotiate the cost and subtract that value from the available cap space. (His cap hold is a stupid $63.3m).
Note predictions in the Red/Black above. Most of the stars on that list will not be available. I bet Mitchell and BI are the main FA's in 2025
