I think Brooks is going to be cut. He has only one use--scoring. But he's shooting poorly. And he's not young to have that "potential" thing going for him.

I think people are still trying to find potential while the management said we are going to stick with more veterans.

Are we down to talking about trades that occur in video games now? We really need the season to start. Preseason is enough

What is more valuable to a team in a trade? A first round pick or a non-rotational guy like he said

You create NBA rumors based on the results of computer trades in NBA 2K14?

    C-Webb,

That fat suit you're wearing might look better on Chuck B.

    Here's my prediction:
    1. Camby gets waived.
    2. Canaan gets traded to the Jazz for the lower of Utah or Golden State 2017 first round picks.

Waiving Camby allows the Rox to take their time to explore the market for G. Smith, and then resigned him again in February. No one will pick him, being injured and having clearly stated preference to play in Houston. Take your time, and welcome back in February.

Utah is actively looking for a PG, with the injury to Burke. They have excess of picks. With Canaan they get a young player who can start on the learning curve right away. Also, a high 2nd rounder, who many projected as a 1st rounder, who is locked on a more favorable contract than a first round pick. They give up a low first rounder, 4 years out in the future.

no way we trade canaan unless it is a piece of bringing in a third star. teams with most of their cap space committed to 2 or more stars DEPEND on rookies or young kids with cheap contracts that can contribute. he is one of the few potential young contributors we have.

Wouldn't be incredibly shocked if Canaan is called about or shopped, but would be slightly surprised if it actually happened.

However the PG teams might call about first might be Beverley. There is more evidence there that he's more than likely going to be a very good starting caliber PG for years more with room to grow and a great contract.

Camby.... would be surprised if they made a trade AND he still got waived. Waiving him in this case doesn't make sense when you have a similarly injured player in Williams who doesn't defend well at all, and is fairly easily replicated in skill set by multiple players. Also his contract has the least amount guaranteed.

No way we trade a 2nd round pick rookie who hasn't really played and is not likely to play much for anything but a star?

    no doubt.

I like the kid, he does have a nice skillset, but so far he hasnt shown a damn thing in preseason or summer league...why on earth would any team trade anything of consequence for him?

    Asik - 26
    Beverley- 24
    Harden - 24
    Howard- 27
    Jones- 21
    Lin-24
    D-Mo-23
    Parsons- 24

Are these guys not going to be contributors this year, or do you think these guys are old vets???... very confused.

And if you're worried about how much Morey had to spend on role players in free agency, go check out how much fat cash Les had to spend on the likes of Casspi, Garcia, Camby, Brooks, etc. this Summer here-

I see where you're coming from on Canaan and Beverly, but I have a different take, which is:

Morey is looking for what is called "value," and sometimes referred to as "bang for your buck." This is why Chandler Parsons has been so incredibly valuable, because he provides value, he produces far in excess from what one expects from a guy making around $1 mil/year. Beverly is now the same sort of player.

Morey also looks to exploit inefficiencies. He exploited an inefficiency, or bias, when he drafted Parsons, and signed Beverly. Also when he signed Carlos Delfino. Maybe he has struck gold again in Omri Casspi.

It makes a lot more sense, from this perspective, to trade Jeremy Lin.

Having said that, if Morey doesn't think Canaan cracks the rotation this season, and somebody will trade him a first round pick for him, why would he not be all over that? But if he can trade Lin, and promote Canaan to the second unit, then you are paying two of your top three guards (Beverly and Canaan) less than $2 mil combined. Impressive!

Well, based on college career he was projected to be late first, early second rounder. He was injured in summer league, and then in preseason he has shown exactly what you expect from late first/ early second: almost nothing, that is.
For a team, like Utah, with injury at the position, getting a high second rounder right away for a future LATE first rounder is a good deal.

For HOU, he is a 4th string PG. He may have upside, but the team wants to win now. PGs usually take longer to develop, anyway. If the Rockets can get a pick for him, they should do it. What good is to waive Brooks for nothing, as some have suggested, and keep Cannan? Brooks is ahead of him in the rotation. And we cannot trade Brooks, because of his no-trade, so it's a pure write-off.

Dobro, Williams will not be cut, IMO. It's not right that he's easily replicatable. Shooting was in very high demand this free-agent season. Look how much attention and courtship the corpse of Mike Miller got. The minute we cut Williams he's claimed by OKC or MEM, conference rivals. So you lose a guy for nothing and help competitors... Not good.

I think of all the fringe players, Brooks have the lowest chance of being cut. Given the Rockets contending this year, there's no way he doesn't stay on as insurance policy. Currently the Rockets are one PG injury away from Cannan seeing time. I like the kid's potential, but I want him playing in the DLeague for at least half a season first.

Reggie Williams or Covington would be my guess. Right now, I'm leaning Covington with Casspi playing so well.

Lin is one of the best rim-attacking point guards in the league, good at PnR, best passer on the team, creates high % shots for others, and is still improving... So why would Morey trade him and then play a rookie for 20mpg? In a contending season?!
