Its a toss up at the moment because they still have a month & 8 live games to analyze gameplay, chemistry, and their rotations. However, this is about as logical of an answer as we could get right now. At least the money means something to go off of. This would be my best guess at this moment, but that could change as soon as Saturday night after the first preseason game.
I love Brooks but we don't need him. Henriquez and Brooks next. Then we need to do a 2 or 3 for 1 to upgrade the rotation and clear the glut.
Agree! Brooks is good veteran insurance in case Lin is traded, although Brooks himself is annoy be traded this year which doesn't give Morey the flexibility he prefers.
I just don't see this need there with Hakeem and McHale already here. The only reason I can see us wanting to keep Camby is if we might trade Asik at the deadline. If Camby somehow gets cut because he is still injured, look for us to keep Asik the whole year!
The vet min guys are vet min guys for a reason. That means teams passed on signing them to lucrative contracts, and they probably wouldn't be trade assets as it is. Part of the downfall of being over the cap. Now they dont really have the ability to sign vets to contracts like the Dalembert or the Delfino contract where they were very designed to be very tradable pieces at a relatively early timeframe. However, looking at the deals they could make and what its going to take to make a deal like that... it all starts with Asik and/or Lin, and then gets sweetened by either a young talent, or draft picks. Vet min guys like Brooks, Brewer etc. really wouldn't serve much of a purpose this year in a trade anyways.
Not even remotely good. I just absolutely hate the "Lin would be better off leading his own team" bs that some Lin fans spew. Someone wants to be a player only fan, that's fine, I don't agree with it but whatever that's their choice. But when it gets to the point where they would actually prefer their guy fill up the stat sheet on a lesser team over contending it just makes no sense to me. What's best for Lin is helping his team win in whatever way the organization that pays him sees fit. It's just funny to me when some of Lins fans are blind to the fact that it's rare to have the opportunity to play for a team with real title aspirations.
If Brooks makes the team, he will make it as a combo guard. I see Brooks in a battle with Williams for a backup 2 spot. I see Harden and Garcia ahead of Brooks/Williams on the depth chart. The last roster spot will be Camby's to lose. If McHale and Morey think Camby will be healthy enough to contribute next season, Camby makes the team. I think Morey values player who can player multiple positions like: Brooks 1/2 Garcia 2/3 Parsons 3/4 Casspi 3/4 Smith 4/5 Camby 4/5
after watching video today even though it’s a small sample I think brooks stays for the 1/2 combo guard position. He looks like a vet playing smart and mchale had him getting plenty of playing time. Its wouldn’t make since to cut him also since he is guaranteed over mill this season.
I see Brooks staying too. Not sure why, and I don't see him getting a lot of play, but he provides an interesting option. For me, that leaves Henriquez, Williams, Canaan -- as the cut players. Think Canann would spend most of the year in D League anyway (see: TJones rookie year). Rockets may as well make it official, and save a roster spot.
Can't do that unless you want to lose him. If you cut Canaan, someone will pick him up off the waiver wire before you can sign him to the Vipers. You have to use up a roster spot on him, even if you're sending him to the D-League for the year. They're not going to cut Canaan.
I think Williams and Henriquez will get cut, and whether Casspi makes the roster, or Smith gets traded for a second round pick will depend on how they play in preseason. Brooks makes the team, as does Covington, who'll spend time in the D-League with Canaan.
I don't think any Lin fan wants him to get traded to a lesser team. I'm pretty sure they're all in agreement with you..
I see, thanks. Thought I had to be missing something because so many were picking him to stay. That makes the last cut much harder.
I feel most people are too high on Camby staying, he was really REALLY bad last year on the Knicks, and at 39 you can't just say hey man he'll get healthier at age 39!
