He'd almost assuredly be a one year rental unless we made a serious run or won it all. Even then he seems just flakey enough to bounce anyways.
Cavs don't want a 1 year rental so now they are after Butler. One less competition. Will Morey risk a lot for a guy who might bolt next season?
He will because he believes stars are the key to success and time in the organisation gives a better chance at keeping (a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush).
I'm pretty sure Morey is aware that if we don't build true contender we might lose Harden, in order to do that we need to risk, because. A. There are not many available superstars. B. There are teams with better assets to get these superstars. So in order to get ourselfs, one, we have to risk it, or get lucky in FA and considering most of TOP FA's have rejected us, might as well go big and get PG, be it one year rental or not, its not like Harden is gonna stay here in his prime forever, might as well do something now. And getting PG might increase our chances of getting a top FA as well, so why the hell not!
rockets also deflated 2nd half of the season playing mediocre ball and then got exposed badly in the playoffs -- this team literally quit competing at home in an elimination game against a team missing their 1st and 3rd best players. no f'n way PG volunteers to join the laughing stock of the league....period.
Yeah, the Lakers are really good... Why would he want to come here and form a trio with Millsap/Hayward/CP3 + Harden? It'd be way more fun to go to LA, make less money, and never make the playoffs.
Even if PG bolts next year we would have max cap and be able to make a run at hardens real close friend.....Russell Westbrook dun dun dun who might be looking to bolt okc if the don't do anything and join harden to take down the kd and the dubs.
When we ultimately fail to get this trade done will it be because we didn't have the assets or because we were not willing to gut the team?
Just because we don't deal Anderson now, doesn't mean we won't at all. His contract is pretty valuable in deals for players that make near max or S&T situations.
If it ends in Paul/George/Harden, then fighting chance for title. If just George or Paul, more fun, but unlikely to move us beyond Conference Finals. That is ok. We should try to have as much fun as possible until the super teams breakup or crash.
that's assuming any of millsap or hayward or cp3 would ever wear a rox uniform. but aside from that pipedream too, PG has already made it known he wants to go back home to LA. regarding less money, endorsements deals he'll get in so-cal will dwarf the state taxes shortfall. and on another note, none of us here would be surprised if harden himself eventually decides to head back home to LA too. he's probably already concluded they'll never let him win mvp in h-town anyways!
If Morey doesn't pull this off it will be because Indiana does not want what Morey is offering. That said, I think Morey will go for broke.
