Hayes is a legit 4 man. Just cuz he's a couple inches shorter doesn't mean he's not legit. His standing reach is actually the same as that of 6'9'' Shelden Williams.

Also, I know the hoopsworld is not to be trusted, but this one actually has quotes from Chuck and Dawson that I found interesting...

Yes - Now this would be fun. Novak chasing the likes of Kobe, Rip, or even Michael Redd around would be hilarious to see. I doubt Novak has enough lateral quickness to keep up with Gary Payton at this point in his young career.

As good of a shooter as he is, and as good of a pro as he will be, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY he can guard the 2.

If you assume Tracy would guard the two's, then OK. But Novak, on the perimeter, would face iso after iso. The big 2's like Kobe and Vince would even take him into the post.

Had to pick one, so I picked a month later in the season which would offer newcomers (rookies and vets alike) the chance to learn something of our system. It would also be the starting lineup HEADED INTO THE PLAYOFFS!!!!

It looks like Juwan is going nowhere.

    Therefore i would surmise

    (If Sura is healthy)

    PG Sura
    SG McGrady
    SF Battier
    PF Howard
    C Yao

(If Sura is not healthy, or not up to playing 30 minutes and chasing PG's - MOST likely)

    PG Alston
    SG McGrady
    SF Battier
    PF Howard
    C Yao

I don't see why so few members here are not connecting dots.

The idea of Battier at the 4 was when the idea was that Howard was being dealt.

They won't start Battier at 4 if Howard is staying.

    1. Battier is a better SF than he is a PF
    2. Howard is still going to be better at rebounding and still is more of a PF than Battier
    3. T-Mac can play the 2 more easily than Battier can play the 4.
    4. Howard is useless unless he starts. It seems everyone forgets that Howard only gets points and rebounds when he starts, yes he gives up more, but when he comes off the bench he still gives up as much but instead does NOTHING - some players simply cannot get it going off the bench, and Howard is one of them

    Yao/Mutombo
    Jho/Hayes
    Battier/Snyder/Novak
    Tmac/Vspan/Head
    Alston/Sura/JL3

This lineup makes sense. Battier will only play PF at times against Smaller Forwards like Dallas, Suns, Detroit.

    Dude ... 1.) I agree 80%
    2.) I agree 60%
    3.) I agree 90%
    4.) I disagree! > PF Van Horn/Howard/Hayes
When I read your signature it seems that Van Horn would be our starting PF, so Howard would come off the bench ... and you just said that Howard "simply cannot get it going off the bench"?! If the Rockets keep Howard and sign Van Horn there is only one thing for sure ... JVG is coaching his last season for the Rockets! I 'd rather have Hayes as starting PF than Van Horn or Howard!
